CONFIRMED!! *** MARS DID HAVE HUGE OCEANS IN IT'S PAST *** | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1526884 Brazil 08/29/2011 10:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Our planet will dry, during massive solar storms that will happen when the Earth's magnetic field dissapear. It could be tomorrow, it could be in the next 10 million years..... |
~Andariel~ (OP) User ID: 1047712 Canada 08/29/2011 10:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | cool post - always lovve the astronomy stuff! I have often wondered if we werent given nine chances to get it right, beginning on pluto - oops not a planet anymore - and as our sun got cooler just kept hopping in a planet. maybe a million years from now we will be relaxing on a sunny beach on Venus, lol! Quoting: chrissie123 and BTW - not to nitpik, but the thread title says mars DID have water, but the OP only states mars COULD have had water. bit misleading, though i agree it is very highly likely. Hi. Title says "DID have OCEANS" Mars HAS water now but NOT Oceans :) Last Edited by ~Andariel~ on 08/29/2011 10:57 PM Space, the final frontier...or is it? Knowledge is power |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1406481 United States 08/29/2011 10:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | what good does this do us. wow, now we know...terrific. i am a little more worried about what is going on here on planet earth. mars having water 2 billion years ago is kind of useless information in the grand scheme of things and of the now Quoting: kfitz In that case skip the thread instead of complaining about the subject. Judging from your writing this thread is wasted on you anyway. As the old saying goes, "Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it." how is me failing to learn this going to have any significance on my life? i already knew there was water on mars. it is pretty obvious from the whole ice on the northern hemisphere thing. 2 plus 2 will always equal 4 my friend. now there is an old saying if i have ever heard one. dont get cocky with me in an attempt to impress this girl IMPRESS YOU????? The only thing I want to do to you is go back in time and tell your mother to abort you. If you're too dumb to realize that learning what happened to Mars could have an impact on what happens to Earth and if you can't see where it might be a good idea to have another planet ready for humanity to move to in case Earth is destroyed, then there's no hope for you. Please don't reproduce, though I dare say you've already popped out a couple of welfare checks from the way you're acting. |

Geos User ID: 586866 United States 08/30/2011 12:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Very interesting videos and theories posted here. I do believe our universe is electrically active and not neutral like most scientists would like us to believe. The geology of Mars is fascinating. Mars definitely had ocean(s) and rivers before. An ocean in the northern Hemisphere lowlands would help explain that absence of craters there. Asteroids/rocks hitting the ocean would not disrupt the sea floor (water would cushion that blow), except maybe the largest asteroids. Asteroids hitting the southern hemisphere and highlands would be free to pock mark the surface. Some of these craters could be relatively new too, coming after the oceans ceased to exist on Mars. That would point to the ocean being there a lot more recently. Electrical arcing/machining definitely created some of the larger features on Mars ~ too big for water to do alone. The electrical effects on Mars definitely would have occurred if another object of significant size cruised by Mars. The smaller scale water like erosion features were likely the work of river systems. The liquid water and atmosphere would have been dispersed at the time of electrical influence. The oceans and atmosphere; I believe, were there a lot sooner than a couple billion years ago! |
danwa User ID: 1522311 United States 08/30/2011 12:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We know that water exists on Mars in the form of ice at the poles, inside some craters and just beneath the surface in certain areas. As OP has pointed out, we have strong evidence of vast oceans on Mars in the distant past. Recently, the team of researchers operating the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) have uncovered evidence of seasonal liquid water. Alfred McEwen is the lead planetary scientist of the team, but it was a student that made the discovery. Lujendra Ojha, utilizing an algorithm that he created to detect very slight changes in the surface over time (3 years), found dark, narrow streaks that occur only on steep slopes during the warmest Martian months. The streaks fade during the colder months. Significant is the fact that while the temperature of Mars does not allow for liquid water, the locations of the streaks and the composition of the water may provide the necessary conditions. The streaks occur only in the warmest regions (middle latitudes) and on slopes facing the equator. While the temperature of Mars averages about -50 C, during the summer months in the middle latitudes on these slopes, temperatures can reach 0 C. Still cold enough to freeze water, but just warm enough for a briny form of liquid water to flow slowly. Salt water remains liquid at lower temperatures, as much as 2 C lower. The evidence of briny liquid water on Mars further supports the evidence of past saltwater oceans. The discovery has vast implications. The most important is the possibility of life. We know that all life on earth requires liquid water. It is reasonable to postulate that discovering liquid water on Mars is a required prerequisite to discovering life on Mars. I would expect us to find evidence of life on Mars in the very near future. Thanks Andariel for another interesting thread. |
Dawn of Man User ID: 1514442 United States 08/30/2011 02:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | perhaps then Martians could have migrated from Mars to Earth eh? Quoting: Dawn of Man Just a thought. Very Interesting! My first thought..And that's where the reptilian Bloodlines come from... according to this video It would very much make sense and makes this videos claims much more interesting about 8:21 but I recommend the entire series but if you want more info on the martians watch the whole human history story don't blindly accept it just look into it. Marty McFly- Oh This Is heavy Doc Doc Bown- There's that word again, heavy. Why are things so heavy in the future, is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pole??- Back To the Future Me-Hehe, Doc you don't have any idea do you? All in fractals friends! Life is like a ride at an amusement park and when you go on it you think it's real cause that's how powerful our minds are.- Bill Hicks Either get busy living, or get busy dying- Morgan Freeman (Shawshank Redemption) |
