Have a communications plan. The recent earthquake in Virgina, reminded us that:

cell phones...not going to work.
Power...forget it..

If a disaster strikes? What will your husband-wife-daughter-son-brother(etc..) do?

Where will you meet? Who will go where? Who will stay where?
How will you communicate? Will you leave signs (markings, notes)?

Protection?

Have some kind of plan. Why do you think that FEMA, NASA and all the others keep saying it?
