Why the book of Enoch is not inspired by God
Thread: Why the Genesis 6 sons of God are not angels

The Book of Enoch Teaches Heresy

To the Biblically ignorant reader, the Book of Enoch might have an appeal; but to a believer grounded in the Scriptures, the Book of Enoch is packed full of heresy. For example:

We read in chapter 40 of the Book of Enoch...

1 And after that I saw thousands of thousands and ten thousand times ten thousand, I saw a multitude
2 beyond number and reckoning, who stood before the Lord of Spirits. And on the four sides of the Lord of Spirits I saw four presences, different from those that sleep not, and I learnt their names: for the angel that went with me made known to me their names, and showed me all the hidden things.
3 And I heard the voices of those four presences as they uttered praises before the Lord of glory.
4 The first voice blesses the Lord of Spirits for ever and ever.
5 And the second voice I heard blessing
6 the Elect One and the elect ones who hang upon the Lord of Spirits. And the third voice I heard pray and intercede for those who dwell on the earth and supplicate in the name of the Lord of Spirits.
7 And I heard the fourth voice fending off the Satans and forbidding them to come before the Lord
8 of Spirits to accuse them who dwell on the earth. After that I asked the angel of peace who went with me, who showed me everything that is hidden: ‘Who are these four presences which I have
9 seen and whose words I have heard and written down?’ And he said to me: ‘This first is Michael, the merciful and long-suffering: and the second, who is set over all the diseases and all the wounds of the children of men, is Raphael: and the third, who is set over all the powers, is Gabriel: and the fourth, who is set over the repentance unto hope of those who inherit eternal life, is named Phanuel.
10 And these are the four angels of the Lord of Spirits and the four voices I heard in those days.
 Quoting:

The Bible never mentions an angel named Phanuel, let alone an angel who is set over the repentance of those who inherit eternal life. What blasphemy! That statement in itself contradicts everything the Word of God teaches. We read in 1st Timothy 2:5 that Jesus Christ is the ONLY Mediator between God and men, not some angel named Phanuel... "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." Repentance is strictly between a man and Jesus Christ alone. Only Jesus died for our sins, and shed His blood to pay for them (1st Peter 1:18-19); therefore, we must be diligent to guard and defend against LIARS and imposters who would lead people to believe otherwise. 1st John 2:22 clearly indicts all Christ-deniers as LIARS, guilty before God.

Here's chapter 48:1-3...

1 And in that place I saw the fountain of righteousness Which was inexhaustible: And around it were many fountains of wisdom: And all the thirsty drank of them, And were filled with wisdom, And their dwellings were with the righteous and holy and elect.
2 And at that hour that Son of Man was named In the presence of the Lord of Spirits, And his name before the Head of Days.
3 Yea, before the sun and the signs were created, Before the stars of the heaven were made, His name was named before the Lord of Spirits.
 Quoting:

Was the Son of Man named? When was Jesus named in Heaven? This is an attack on the deity of Jesus. Jesus Himself claimed in Revelation 1:8, "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty." Jesus is Eternal, without beginning or end. Head of Days? Lord of Spirits? These terms are NOT found in the Bible. IF the Book of Enoch were valid, composing well over 100 chapters, there should be numerous New Testament references to it; but there aren't. Although some people claim that the Bible quotes the Book of Enoch over 100 times, this is simply not true. Just as the Qur'an, the Book of Enoch borrows from the Word of God. In sharp contrast to the Book of Enoch, the New Testament often quotes the Book of Genesis.

We read in the Book of Enoch, chapter 69:8-12...

8 ...And the fourth was named Penemue: he taught the
9 children of men the bitter and the sweet, and he taught them all the secrets of their wisdom. And he instructed mankind in writing with ink and paper, and thereby many sinned from eternity to
10 eternity and until this day. For men were not created for such a purpose, to give confirmation
11 to their good faith with pen and ink. For men were created exactly like the angels, to the intent that they should continue pure and righteous, and death, which destroys everything, could not have taken hold of them, but through this their knowledge they are perishing, and through this power
12 it is consuming me.

Re: Why the book of Enoch is not inspired by God
Bible Question: In Genesis 5:21-24 we are told that Enoch walked with God. In my research I have found the book of Enoch. I have read it over and over and found it to be very moving and very inspiring. It was the very key to bring me back to our Lord and Savior. It is a blue print of all things past, present, and future from Genesis to the Son of Man (Jesus Christ) our Messiah, to the secret day of judgment. It is almost the whole Bible in one book. My question is, why isn't this wonderful book in the Bible?

Bible Answer: The book of Enoch is one of the Pseudepigrapha books and was apparently written during the first century before Jesus Christ. The book contains one hundred and eight chapters divided into five sections. The introductory chapters, 1-5, provide a short introduction of Enoch and speak to the major themes of rewards, punishment, the end of the world and final judgment. Book 1 includes chapters 6-36 and is primarily about angels, the Tree of Life, Jerusalem, and the universe. Book 2 includes chapters 37-71 and deals with the One, the Son of God, or the Messiah, resurrection, the flood, Noah, future judgment, and paradise. Book 3 (chap. 72-82) deals with stars, moon, astronomy, the universe, and Enoch's mission. Book IV (chap. 83-90) presents predictions about the flood, a historical sketch, the future of Israel, and the messianic kingdom. Book V (chap. 91-105) addresses a variety of topics and the concluding chapters 106-108 end the book.
While the book is fascinating to read, it is important to note that the book is not scripture. That is, the book is not inspired by God. The book was quoted in the Apocryphal book of Baruch, and in several early church manuscripts: Barnabas 16:5, Idolatry 15:6 (Tertullian), and Eccl. Proph 3 (Clement of Alexandria). Some have speculated that Jude 14-15 is a quote from the book of Enoch and concluded that Jude regarded Enoch as scripture. The following two quotes compare Jude 14-15 to the suspected passage in the book of Enoch.

. . . Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him. (NASB) Jude 1:14-15

. . . Behold, he will arrive with ten million of the holy ones in order to execute judgment upon all. He will destroy the wicked ones and censure all flesh on account of everything that they have done, that which the sinners and the wicked ones committed against him. - Enoch 1:9

Careful examination of the two passages reveals some significant differences. First, Jude refers to "thousands" of angels, but Enoch refers to "millions." Jude says that God will "convict" all of the ungodly, but Enoch says that they will be "destroyed." The rest of the two passages disagree in wording in minor ways. Therefore, it is inaccurate to conclude that Jude quoted Enoch. Since the book of Jude was written by Jude under the influence of God the Holy Spirit, we conclude that the book of Jude is truth. Therefore Enoch is wrong with regard to some facts.
The book of Enoch was never referred to by Jesus or any of the New Testament writers as scripture, and the book was not included in the New Testament by the apostles. It is commonly misunderstood that the content of the Bible evolved over time. But the New Testament clearly tells us that the apostles were identifying scripture as it was being written (1 Tim. 5:17-18; 2 Pet. 3:14-16). The New Testament books were being distributed by the apostles to the various churches to be read (Gal. 6:11; Col. 4:16; 1 Thess. 5:27; 2 Thess. 2:2; 3:14). By the time the apostles died, the New Testament had been written and its books were known. The Muratorian Fragment and several of the early fathers have left us a list of books that were identified as belonging to the New Testament. The book of Enoch was never included. Some books were challenged later but never with success.

Conclusion: You asked the question, "Why isn't this wonderful book included in the Bible?" The answer is that Jesus and the apostles never called it scripture. It is important to note that a few early church fathers highly valued the book of Enoch but they never referred to it as scripture. Therefore, we cannot view it as authorative since it is not the Word of God.

Re: Why the book of Enoch is not inspired by God
Bible Question: My question concerns the book of Enoch. As a big ancient history buff, I have a profound interest in the book because it gives a vivid picture of the pre-flood world. This is hard to come by. I do not, however, make a habit of putting any trust in anything that is not directly inspired by our Lord. Therefore, I would greatly appreciate any insight you could give me about whether the book is inspired by the Holy Spirit or just a colorful narrative.

Bible Answer: Both the Roman Catholic Church and the Protestants agree that the Old and New Testaments are inspired, that is, the sixty-six books of the Bible are written by God. The apostles recognized these books as inspired by the Holy Spirit. All others were rejected as not having been written by God.

Apocrypha. The Roman Catholic Church accepts another group of books as being inspired. These books are called the Apocrypha and include: Baruch, Bel and the Dragon, Ecclesiasticus, 1 and 2 Esdras, The History of Susanna, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees, The Prayer of Manasseh, Additions to Esther, The Song of the Three Holy Children, Tobit, and The Wisdom of Solomon. Protestants reject these books because they were never endorsed by the apostles or the early church. All other books are rejected by both the Roman Catholic Church and the Protestants.
Pseudepigrapha. The Pseudepigrapha is a group of books that are rejected by both the Roman Catholic Church and Protestants. The Pseudepigrapha contains a long list of books too long to present here. The Books of Enoch are part of the Pseudepigrapha. Three books are actually associated with Enoch, not just one. Each one is different: the Ethiopic version of Enoch, a Slavonic version of Enoch, and the Secrets of Enoch. Both the Roman Catholic Church and the Protestants do not believe that any of these books of Enoch are inspired or written by God.

Conclusion: There is not any reason to believe that any of the Books of Enoch are inspired. The Old Testament, as we know it, was endorsed by Jesus while He was alive on this earth. The apostles endorsed the books of the New Testament. The Old and New Testaments contain all of the books written by God. The book of Enoch is just a colorful narrative!

Re: Why the book of Enoch is not inspired by God
Question: "What is the book of Enoch and should it be in the Bible?"

Answer: The Book of Enoch is any of several pseudepigraphal (falsely attributed works, texts whose claimed authorship is unfounded) works that attribute themselves to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah; that is, Enoch son of Jared (Genesis 5:18). Enoch is also one of the two people in the Bible taken up to heaven without dying (the other being Elijah), as the Bible says "And Enoch walked with God, and he was not; for God took him." (Genesis 5:24; see also Hebrews 11:5). Most commonly, the phrase "Book of Enoch" refers to 1 Enoch, which is wholly extant only in the Ethiopic language.

The biblical book of Jude quotes from the Book of Enoch in verses 14-15, “Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: ‘See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.’” But this does not mean the Book of Enoch is inspired by God and should be in the Bible.

Jude’s quote is not the only quote in the Bible from a non-biblical source. The Apostle Paul quotes Epimenides in Titus 1:12 but that does not mean we should give any additional authority to Epimenides’ writings. The same is true with Jude, verse 14. Jude quoting from the book of Enoch in Jude verse 9 does not indicate the entire book is inspired, or even true. All it means is that particular verse is true. It is interesting to note that no scholars believe the Book of Enoch to have truly been written by the Enoch in the Bible. Enoch was seven generations from Adam, prior to the Flood (Genesis 5:1-24). Evidently, though, this was genuinely something that Enoch prophesied – or the Bible would not attribute it to him, “Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men…” (Jude 14). This saying of Enoch was evidently handed down by tradition, and eventually recorded in the Book of Enoch.

We should treat the Book of Enoch (and the other books like it) in the same manner we do the other Apocryphal writings. Some of what the Apocrypha says is true and correct, but at the same time, much of it is false and historically inaccurate. If you read these books, you have to treat them as interesting but fallible historical documents, not as the inspired, authoritative Word of God.

I agree with you about the book of enoch

However the bible is quite clear the offspring of Satan mixing with humans (not sure about the rest of the fallen angels) produced giants.

Genesis 3:15 I will make you and the woman hostile toward each other. I will make your descendants and her descendant hostile toward each other. He will crush your head, and you will bruise his heel.

Numbers 13:33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Re: Why the book of Enoch is not inspired by God
You realize, of course, that this is not a text to be taken literally. Like Revelation of the "new" testament, the Book of Enoch attempts to explain the mystical, the hidden, the ecstatic with words that can't convey the meaning adequately. Thus layers of symbolism are employed, intermixed with the narrative of the vision. Yet, the meaning is obvious to the observant.

I would further suggest to you that references to the Book of Enoch can be found in both the "old" and "new" testaments.

Be blessed

Satan is NOT a spirit being. He astrally projects his spirit body but god cursed him with a flesh body.

(Genesis 6:2) That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
(Genesis 6:3) And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he ALSO is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

You're taking the idea that angels can't procreate from the story Jesus told the Sadducees. Read it carefully, Matthew 22:23-33. They will be like the angels IN HEAVEN. So which angels AREN'T in heaven. Explain why Jude and Peter both alluded to these things if they aren't true. I believe much of what is in the Book of Enoch explains many different things in scripture, like why Yahweh told Joshua to wipe out entire villages of people. That was men, women, and children. Understanding that these things were the offspring of an ungodly union puts everything into a much deeper perspective and illustrates the cosmic war for men's souls that seems to constantly be raging at all fronts even within ourselves. Our Father and his precious Son want nothing more than union with us, by means of the Holy Spirit. To write Enoch off as "heresy" sounds a lot like what some of the early protestants did as well as (obviously) the Catholic church. Christ Jesus never taught us to go around slaying each other, Jude references this again in regards to Michael over the body of Moses. He simple said, "The Lord rebuke you!". If most of the people who run around calling true teachings of Christ heresy had their way they'd do the same thing as their ancestors and burn everyone who opposed them at the stake. If burning people at the stake sounds appealing to you, then you are truly given over and arguing will do no good. I pray that revelation come upon all of God's true children and that the Spirit of Truth would lead us all towards the true Christ, our messiah, the one true Lord, by means of his Spirit of Holiness to the glory of God the Father. AMEN and shalom to those in Christ.

Hey OP, As if ***YOU KNOW*** what is actually inspired by an invisible, all knowing entity that no one can see, hear or prove actually exists(?!)

Stupid religoTards...

Re: Why the book of Enoch is not inspired by God
OP is 100% correct. The book of Enoch is a fraud and has been completely debunked. Those of you who think it is valid need to do some serious research because you are being mislead.

The so-called Book of Enoch is a favorite among those Ufologists that try with all their might to connect the bible with theories of hybridization particularly of ‘Giant’ hybrids
that resulted from a sexual union between ‘angels’ and human women. Since the bible makes no such claim it is with good reason that this book was not included in the
Canon of scripture. Read the articles, Nephilim-Giants and Iron & Clay for a Biblical understanding of who the Biblical giants really were and to confirm that the Bible states
that hybridization through sexual union is an impossibility. However to give Biblical authenticity to their claims of such hybrid offspring and other UFO related theories the
authorship of this book is generally attributed to the Biblical patriarch Enoch who was born after 700 years after Adam and lived 365 years before being ‘translated’ by God
to heaven. The purpose of this article is to prove that whoever wrote this book it could not possibly have been the Biblical Enoch. First of all there are too many doctrinal
claims in this book that are entirely contradictory to the Bible. Secondly this author of this book cites historical facts and geographical locations that the Biblical Enoch could
not possibly have had access to in his lifetime. This book was in al likelihood ‘reverse engineered’ and poorly at that. The author had to have had knowledge of both the
Old and New Testaments and the earliest this book could have been written would have been in the 1st century AD, nearly 3000 years after the Biblical Enoch left the
Earth. There are at least 3 books that have supposedly been authored by the Biblical Enoch and as a matter of fact there are hundreds if not thousands of writings
classified as ‘Pseudepigraphical’ meaning ‘False Title’. They are classified as false titles because the authorship of the books is attributed to Biblical of historical characters
when in fact these Biblical or historical figures had nothing to do with the authorship of such books. The books of Enoch are prime examples of such Pseudepigraphical’
writings and it is not without reason that they are called ‘false titles.’ This article will deal only with the most famous of the three Enoch books titled Enoch 1.
