And just in time for El Hierro to go live! We have another x-flare. Sunspot 1139 could just be getting warmed up, much like El Hierro.

El Hierro se prepara para una posible evacuación de la isla
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1488672

does this say 'el hierro prepares for possible evacuation of the island'?

that would contradict the latest update via earthquake-report.com

Update 03/11 – 20:44 UTC :
Pevolca has decided not to change their opinion. No evacuation will be organized and they stress that there is NO risk for the population at the moment (source Diario El Hierro).

how many millions in tourist dollar would the canaries lose, from people cancelling holidays all over the canaries, if they evacuated?

would YOU go to Tenerife if you just heard El Hierro was evacuated totally?

think about it.

From that article. Sounds like maybe caught in the storm surge?

"They find the body of a woman in the waters of El Hierro

The lifeless body of the woman was located near the ravine of La Madera beach in the municipality of La Frontera, after a call to 112 alerted that a vehicle was on the coast, in a difficult access, near a cliff."

Scientists predict a rash of major entity in El Hierro
Excerpt:
"According to scientists, a significant amount of magma would be looking for a solution to the surface." We believe what is happening in northern intrusion of magma, a similar episode to what happened in La Restinga, but with much larger magnitudes, "he told LaVanguardia.com responsible for the scientific dissemination volcanological Institute of the Canaries (non-tip), David Calvo"
 Quoting: Luisport

You got my attention when you said "Entity". I was like HOLY POOP!

Then I realized, that was just your choice of words. Significant amount of magma looking for escape. Remember, I posted a few days ago...maybe a week or so...sceintists now believe there is more magma under Hierro than there is under La Palma. That, AND, the fact that La Palma continues to fall in it's deformation as Hierro continues to rise in its deformation.

Yesterday evening pacific time I posted, at what was actually today at like 0300 UTC, and IGN stated there was 79 quakes for 02nd Novemeber, 2011. Today, when I got to work at 0700 pacific time, it said 99 quakes. So, at some point in the 10 hours AFTER midnight UTC, they managed to post 20 more quakes. So...they do this, and it's not uncommon at all.

why would they do that though?

what's the benefit to them of holding quakes back, then adding them after midnight?

um, i didn't say anything about evacuating Tenerife.

my point was would YOU go to Tenerife, or Lanzarote, or anywhere down there if you just heard El Hierro was totally evacuated?

yes

do you honestly think things will improve?

they will, eventually, but it's the getting worse bit that has me worried

hopefully it'll just be like every other doom on here, and fizzle out.

lol, i dunno. if i had to bet on a rumbling mega-vat of magma eventually blowing, or reptilians being irrefutably outed, i know where my money would go

of course things will improve eventually. but what happens before then? thats what matters

I have two questions, if I may?

 Quoting: Idgits

If that is the case, do we also believe there are sites on el hierro which have the potential to collapse.. or is it possible that the seismic activity from it, could loosen the rock at La Palma, or a combo of the two..
damned

My second question...
What the *%&*$"£-ing hell are those weird pulses?
on the ign charts?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated, I've been following for some time, and I think I'm going to sign up. :)

 Quoting: there ain't no God

From what I've seen this means one of two things...and I'm leaning towards the latter of my two explanations. Number one, magma is reaching into areas closer to the surface, hence the sensors are showing a stronger vibration, simply because the activity is so much closer to the sensors and therefore the readings show "louder noise" coming from the vibrations. Number two, there is an incredible rise in the amount of magma rushing into the chambers AND there are new vents opening up. Each time we see a jump in activity and then settle back into the regular readings, it probably represents an underground wall or chamber that burst open to allow the incoming magma. I say number two is probably more accurate because we have NOT seen a dramatic rise in shallow quakes.

Someone has said that they were hearing or feeling explosive rumblings. When you're talking about underground chambers and tunnels breaking down or collapsing or bursting open, there will be a tremendous force. However, the harmonics are so great they're drowning out whatever seismic activity might be coming in. And, since they're not a legit quake, their occurances are not being picked up by other islands. However, it is very evident that the other islands ARE picking up the vibrations now. Either the magma is rushing so wildly into Hierro that they're picking it up on their sensors OR magma is actually leaving their islands and heading to Hierro, causing smaller harmonic tremors to appear at other locations.

Look at La Palma and Gomera, they're both registering harmonics quite well now. And, other islands continue to deform by falling as parts of Hierro continues to rise in deformation. Like air going from balloon into another.

Like air going from balloon into another

only the stuff surrounding these balloons is cold, dense rock, which WILL break, in a big way, as it contracts and expands.

EXPECT larger quakes.

2 comments at the bottom of the earthquake-report.com site could be of interest:

"Let it be clear : there is no tsunami t[h]reat for the east coast of the USA ! Giant tsunami waves are only possible when a chain of events are set in motion. El Hierro is NOT capable in generating such a tsunami."

And...

"I am concerned that the USGS IS NOT REPORTING 3.5+ MAG. QUAKES, as is the purpose of their website for worldwide coverage. I live on the US Atlantic coast and rely on this website to know if there is an eruption, with an impending wave towards my property."

Based on our experience they surely will report a + 4.5 magnitude quake. As for a possible tsunami wave, we are evaluating the risk for such an event at 0.00000000001% chance. In other words it cannot be excluded but the likelihood of it is extremely minor + even in this extreme worst case scenario to US has many many hours to react on it.

They seem to be weighing in for an "I told you so", for the sake of conscience.

This graph seems dramatic once more too. Sure you've all seen it, -

Land based eruption, on Hierro, in the current location, means land slide. Numerous previous slides have been recorded in the gulf near Frontera. AND...as I pointed out earlier with the seismic energy maps...the very southern tip of La Palma IS RED F'ING HOT! So is the center of Hierro. New discussions about exactly what type of magma is building under Hierro means it may be changing from a basaltic shield type volcano to a stratovolcano...a process which, according to the wiki article I posted earlier, can be a VERY VIOLENT PROCESS!

Nothing fell in the water in Japan that caused the tsunami there. It was merely underwater plates rising and falling causing the giant wave. That is always a possibility. And, considering an undersea blow out can cause undersea and above water land slides and above water blow outs can cause both underwater and above water slides...there is NOTHING can be ruled out here. The fact that it's obvious that all these islands are interconnected volcanically and seismically says nothing can be completely denied or confirmed. That's why this thread is 300 pages long...for the unknown!

'3. Submarine landslides and hazards

The hazard posed by submarine landslides will vary according to landslide scale, location, type and process. Even small submarine landslides can be dangerous when they occur in coastal areas. The 1996 Finneidfjord slide, in northern Norway, mobilized only 0.001 km3 of sediment and little of this material travelled more than a few hundred metres from source, but four people were killed when a house and car were carried away (Longva et al. 2003). The 1979 Nice airport slide also cut back onto land, killing several men working on the airport extension (Assier-Rzadkiewicz et al. 2000). However, the effects of this landslide were felt at least 100 km offshore, where a turbidity current generated by the landslide broke submarine telephone cables. A local tsunami, which resulted in the death of one person, was also observed. The 1929 Grand Banks earthquake resulted in submarine landslides, a turbidity current, and a tsunami that caused significant casualties (Heezen & Ewing 1952; Piper et al. 1999; Fine et al. 2005). This is one of the best-known submarine landslides because the resultant turbidity current broke several submarine cables sequentially downslope, allowing the speed of such a current (up to 30 m s−1) to be measured for the first time. It also illustrates one of the main difficulties in submarine geohazard study—when a coupled earthquake/landslide generates a tsunami, which of the two hazards produces the tsunami or could their effects even be combined (Fryer et al. 2004; Fine et al. 2005)? The latter has been suggested for the 1998 tsunami that struck Papua New Guinea (PNG), killing over 2000 people (Satake & Tanioka 2003). However, there is now considerable evidence that many ‘unusual’ tsunamis, particularly those with high near-field run-ups that decay rapidly away from source, are directly caused by landslides '
