This blog has an interesting timeline with a great deal of pics and explanations. It is good for those new to the thread as well as a reminder of a few things for those of us that have been here for ever.

Not sure this is from yesterday, but dated the 8th

 Quoting: Bovriltard

For those who can't imagine a tsunami occurring from an underwater eruption, look at this video. This is only a 5-10 foot tall boil, and yet...if you watch, you can see a foot tall wave continuing out for 100 feet or so behind the boil. Now, imagine a 1000+ foot tall boil, which a surtseyan eruption can EASILY produce. This is not about IF it will happen, it is about WHEN it will happen. And, this doesn't even include underwater landslides or above ground landslides.

Could be the goverment have closed all the webcams down !!!!

Webcam closed by the President of El Hierro ?
We have to be cautious in reporting but we want to publish this tweet captured by someone in the Jonfr.com discussion platform. It may explain why not only the image is not reached, but all the webcam configuration has been lost !

From El Hierro twitter

What makes hydromagmatic eruptions violent? Some insights from the Keanakāko'i Ash, Kı̄lauea Volcano, Hawai'i☆

Larry G. Mastin , a, , Robert L. Christiansenb, Carl Thornbera, Jacob Lowensternb, Melvin Beeson1

Abstract

Volcanic eruptions at the summit of Kı̄lauea volcano, Hawai'i, are of two dramatically contrasting types: (1) benign lava flows and lava fountains; and (2) violent, mostly prehistoric eruptions that dispersed tephra over hundreds of square kilometers. The violence of the latter eruptions has been attributed to mixing of water and magma within a wet summit caldera; however, magma injection into water at other volcanoes does not consistently produce widespread tephras. To identify other factors that may have contributed to the violence of these eruptions, we sampled tephra from the Keanakāko'i Ash, the most recent large hydromagmatic deposit, and measured vesicularity, bubble-number density and dissolved volatile content of juvenile matrix glass to constrain magma ascent rate and degree of degassing at the time of quenching. Bubble-number densities (9×104–1×107 cm−3) of tephra fragments exceed those of most historically erupted Kı̄lauean tephras (3×103–1.8×105 cm−3), and suggest exceptionally high magma effusion rates. Dissolved sulfur (average=330 ppm) and water (0.15–0.45 wt.%) concentrations exceed equilibrium-saturation values at 1 atm pressure (100–150 ppm and ∼0.09%, respectively), suggesting that clasts quenched before equilibrating to atmospheric pressure. We interpret these results to suggest rapid magma injection into a wet crater, perhaps similar to continuous-uprush jets at Surtsey. Estimates of Reynolds number suggest that the erupting magma was turbulent and would have mixed with surrounding water in vortices ranging downward in size to centimeters. Such fine-scale mixing would have ensured rapid heat exchange and extensive magma fragmentation, maximizing the violence of these eruptions.

The jellyfish are in Lanzarote not Tenerife.

There are 7 Canary Islands four are the most popular ones for tourism,

Gran Canaria Tenerife Lanzarote Fuerteventura.

Three are the less well known ones,

La Gomera La Palma El Hierro.

Would not the Irish and English goverments be interested now that the Spanish goverment may be stopping the webcams showing live feeds of what is happening in El Hierro as this COULD affect the other islands.

Lots of English and Irish tourists go the the Canary Islands .

I don't know but the depth has decreased. That's a positive isn't it? Unless some strange phenomena has suddenly decreased sea levels drastically it would point to an error? The buoy becoming less buoyed, or something pulling it down. Strange one.

VERY interesting I must say. That same buoy was going off last week with no explanation. What I DO know is that it's very near the Owen's Fracture Zone. That location had two decent 5.0+ quakes over the past couple weeks. In fact, they were nearly back to back. That is a very seismic area. AND...don't forget, Ethpopia was inundated with quakes across the Gulf of Aiden to Yemen a few months ago. A significant crack/valley was formed in Ethipopia...scientists were concerned the Red Sea may come crashing into Ehtiopia, through a fairly small natural retaining wall. I'm going to keep an eye on this...it's directly across from the Canary Islands!

Bob’s first Explosion
[link to www.laprovincia.es]

The volcano of El Hierro creates the biggest explosion since its inception
A column of ash, rocks and gases emerge from the bubble in the Sea of calms and rises more than 25 meters above sea level. The explosion has left a strong smell of sulfur in La Restinga

PEDRO GUERRA / LAPROVINCIA.ES Around 1610 hours on Tuesday an explosion of ash, rocks and gases emerged from the bubble that throughout the morning has been active in the Sea of The Cry [Hostia!! should be Mar de Calmas]. Possibly, this latest explosion is the largest seen so far in the underwater volcano near La Restinga that may have risen above the sea more than 25 meters.

The explosion left a strong smell of sulfur in La Restinga.

La Provincia writes : The volcano had its biggest explosion so far – this corresponds with the comments of Joke and Raymond. The newspaper reports that the column of gas-ash-water climbed 25 meters out of the sea.

CRAP!!! Today is my Monday and I'm having issues! LOL

Okay...so...here we go. You click on the link above and go to "mapas". Once on the next page click "crear mapa". Next, click "mapas en blanco". Choose "Canarias". This will allow you to see the entire archipelago. Scroll down to "segun fecha", enter the date of yesterday in the first line and today in the 2nd line. Next, scroll down to resultado and click on "energia sismica". Choose the color you want to represent your findings...I normally opt for red. The following page will show you the results. I've taken a photo here so you can see what my findings were:

RSOE says "On the evening of 6th November ash and steam from the eruption site reached a height of 100 m."

That's the highest I've seen so far. 100 meters...the rest have all said something more like 20-30 meters max.
