im trying to calculate the total to date. i think it was a rise in 3 1/2 " since june/july, and then this increase?

DAMN! if this is true, this kind of activity is
just the thing that could trigger the catastrophic
landslide on La Palma that would result in a 100 ft
tsunami striking the entire east coast of the u.s.!

It has roughly doubled recently. The graph is not linear, from the 28th the scale changes so it can be diagnosed in more detail.

Did you really think since the 28th the energy has increased about 50 times what it was before the 28th ?

1.6E+11 On September 28th, 2011. 8.6E+11 today. I've been watching this graph as it has grown...there's been no adjustment except for raising the top of the graph to accomodate the growing energy accumulation. That's 160,000,000,000 joules of energy on the 28th of September...today, there's 860,000,000,000 joules. That's roughly 5 and a half times the energy accumulation under Hierro in just 9 days. Ever since the 3's started, this chart has blown up. Soon as the quakes migrated to the southern area of the island and into the sea below Hierro, this energy bolted upwards.

if i lived on these islands

a) i wouldnt be relying on the authorities

and

b) i would be outta there

God, I hope not. My labor lasted 14+ hours, ended with my son nearly dying, my bleeding internally, and needing serious surgery. (1 year later and we fine and healthy.)

A)We never rely on the authorities, they have too many fiestas and siestas.

B)Tenerife was also on amber alert a few years back and nothing came of it, we have earthquakes all the time. Admittidly these are worrying but if we chose to live with on volcanic islands we can't run everytime they burp!

You still don't understand, the rate of energy increase hasn't shot up all of a sudden. The amount of energy is growing fast but the rate hasn't increased a lot. In Volcano terms it's still a little amount of energy.

Sorry...I feel that an increase of 700,000,000,000 joules of energy in a few days is substantial...no matter what we're speaking about. Thats the energy equivelant of around 150 tons of TNT
