I was diving at the coast of La Palma today (near Puerto Naos) and felt the quake quite well, bit of excitement there :)

did it take long to clean the excitement up?

Was the 4.9 odwngraded? From looking and listening to the video the locals didn't seem too disturbed by it. Not so sure that I would have been so complacent if I lived in El Hierro

earthquake report has new video of rockfall.

The geographical Institute confirms that the earthquake was 4.9 degrees after a mistake that downgraded 4.6 the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) has confirmed that the earthquake that occurred this morning in El Hierro at 10:59 hours (local) had a magnitude of 4.9 degrees on the Richter scale, the largest registered in the island since the beginning of this process sismovolcanico, in the summer of 2011.
According to Canarias7, for a few hours, IGN had reduced the magnitude of the shock on its website to 4.6 degrees, using a different calculation method (Mw: magnitude time), but has finally decided to keep the 4.9 degrees obtained with the same method that has been pursuing so far in the seismic series of El Hierro (mbLg: magnitude from the amplitude of the Lg phase), as they have explained the General direction of Canary emergency sources.



Thought IGN had reduced the magnitude but now they have reinstated the 4.9

catch the ML downgrade of the 4.9? we might guess they are downgrading all the others by several ML also?
policy is to not list a 5.+ as real. cap all listings at 4.6 range?

the main thing that should be considered: óéû of such strength are extremely rare of volcanic nature, and if you are sure that they were actually more than 5 - make your conclusions himself

i just took the spectrogram of the quake..

and made a sound file of it at 30 times the hertz shown on the chart to make it audible. interesting those divers heard a roar too.

it's also interesting that the roar at la palma is longer than at el hierro :wink;
