I was recently asked to become a Mason! What should I do?
A couple weeks ago I was approached by a friend of my families and told of me of my long family history of masonry and told me some crazy facts of my heritage. He asked me if I would be interested in coming to some meetings and gathering to get more information on what they are about.

I responded as to I have to think about it and talk with my wife. He gave me some paperwork stating where they are located and some basic "Rules" I guess. Not really quite sure what to do.

When my "real"uncle passed away he left me some rings with masonic symbols on them. He told me a long time ago that I was already in and didnt even know it.

Bloodline ties?

Im Really interested in what Mason's are and feel that it may answer some questions I've had my entire life, however due to the present times we are in it really scares me. I dont want to just go to the meeting and flake out or dont want to be in a cult or something...

Has this happened to anybody else?

Ask me more? Tell me more?

How should I approach this situation. Idol1

Bullshit. Masons don't "invite" people to join, you have to ask. My father is a 32nd Degree Mason.

I was asked to join 'DeMolay' when I was 12. I wonder what would have happened.

If they have pamphlets those are from the porch masons. The real ones use secret face touching.

Yes they are asked at times, actually.
My husband was asked, and turned it down as he wasn't interested.

Husband's Dad was a grand pooh-bah years ago, or whatever you call them, but husband was asked by someone who didn't know this.

Also, my Dad is a mason, and his brother was grand-pooh-bah of their group.

My maternal grandfather was a mason.

I was a rainbow girl for like 2 weeks when I was 13 and quit because it was veeery boring.

True story.

They do ask you. If they invited you to an "open" meeting with no more obligations, go to see what is about. I would suggest to watch the people, the ones who are already members, not the newcomers as you. If its a lecture it will probably be interesting but nothing you dont arleady know.

1) You have to make your own choices, not let others make them for you.

2) Start by changing your thread title. Being given "some paperwork" and asking if you "would be interested in coming to some meetings and gathering to get more information on what they are about" is not an invitation to join.

3) Do the research yourself. Some people might suggest you look into it, many more will tell you you not to.

4) If you do find yourself interesting in learning more, ask yourself why.

5) Keep an open mind throughout your decision/journey, you can tell right from wrong, facts from propaganda.

6) You have to make your own choices, not let others make them for you.

All I can say to you is GO. See if it's for you or not. Nothing ventured nothing gained...

My Dad and Brother are masons. They tell me it's a good thing, and they do many good works. Besides, when you do you get to get discounts!! They do that for each other. :-)

OP, Masonry is as bad for your soul as snorting heroin is for your body. Don't do it, you will not see the afterlife if you do, and Jesus will not welcome you into his kingdom.

Re: I was recently asked to become a Mason! What should I do?
ahahhahaha I got hte join them or die routine, and my granfather ran the CIA.... and got the 'you are already in' routine too... got the pamphlets and more... then it turned into be jesus or die and worse from the secret service..

either way, if they said you are in, tell them to die, fuck off and more, cuz like the sick alien trash scum they are, they will stick to you to the death, and you will 'find out' that you were surrounded by masons the whole time.

just go ahead and touch your middle finger to your face and tell them you already have the sign of the master, then scratch a 1 scratch on your head and tell them you are the master, and watch, like alien scum trash filth looking human, they will respond to you, even tho you are not in the cult.

dont sell your soul , you get switched out and made to be scum...

Do a little research on Google and make your own decision. Are you this nonplussed at all random requests? "I was recently asked to buy Girl Scout Cookies, to donate to charity, to "buy one, get one free..."

Come on....
