Happy Eid (End of Ramadan) GLPers! - please read my greeting to you = )
Ohh GLPers. You know I am being slightly coy in sending this out in that I know there are quite a few out there who feign at the idea of associating anything positive, and dare I say, joyous, to Muslims, but for once, just let it go for a day (this bias). If you knew my religion, I mean really knew my religion and had a pure heart, you would breathe a sigh of relief. Islam is peace, and if you read to the contrary, it's because you're not looking deep enough (e.g. you're reading a verse that's not talking about you, you've heard some very clever disinformation, or you're reading a verse out context to the circumstances in which the verse was originally revealed). Islam was revealed over the course of 23 years to a man who was engaged in a tumultuous struggle with very, very hostile idol-worshippers. Verses in the Qur'an that appear violent in nature were speaking about this group, that existed 1400 years ago. Muslims can marry jewishish people and Christians. You are People of the Book (if you're Christian and jewishish of course). For God's sake, relax. Read what Umar (Muhammad's second closest companion and second caliph) said when he entered Jerusalem:
"From the servant of Allah and the Commander of the Faithful, Umar: The inhabitants of Jerusalem are granted security of life and property. Their churches and crosses shall be secure. This treaty applies to all people of the city. Their places of worship shall remain intact. These shall neither be taken over nor pulled down. People shall be quite free to follow their religion. They shall not be put to any trouble..."
If a Muslim today is too stupid to understand this, may God protect us from them. We've got a lot of dummies running around who cloak themselves with my beautiful religion, doing my religion and the rest of us a huge disservice. May they come to their senses.
Anyways, I digress. A very very Happy Eid to you and go and treat yourselves to something with sugar in it on my account (but not my tab)!
I cannot give you an Eidi (Eid gift) but I will give you two songs which I enjoy listening to.
Cheers! And if anyone wants to say something bad to me, or my religion, you are only hurting yourself. Our dear Jesus said, "blessed are the peacemakers." The world would be a better place if we were all more Jesus-like. = )
