!!! REVENGE AGAINST THE SMART METERS!!! HOW TO MAKE THEM DUMB!!! | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1529001 Australia 08/31/2011 04:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here are some highlighted points: Some clear themes emerged from the submissions that were received from members of the public. They included: concerns that smart meters were imposing an additional cost on households without any apparent benefit; concerns that time of use tariffs would impose additional costs on households; that some individuals, including the elderly, the disabled and other disadvantaged groups, would be unable to change their energy consumption if time of use tariffs were implemented; concerns about health issues associated with smart meters, including radiation; concerns about the accuracy of smart meters and the inability of households to check energy consumption levels; concerns that installers of smart meters were not appropriately qualified; individuals making it known that they did not want a smart meter installed at their property, or wanted their meter removed; and where people had heard about potential benefits, they had insufficient information about when those benefits could be realised and how they could use their Smart Meter to access those benefits. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1492202 United States 08/31/2011 05:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Edison Electric recently installed a smart meter on my house, without my permission or knowledge. When I read about the dangers and invasion of privacy caused by these smart meters and discovered that I now had one, I was pissed. Too late to do anything about it? WRONG!!! Quoting: Sky Pilot You see, the antenna for these meters is located inside the glass (or plastic) bulb. All I had to do was to cover the entire glass bulb with aluminum foil, making sure that the foil was grounded to the metal housing behind the bulb. This shields against any RF or Microwave transmissions, which both protects you from the radiation and also defeats the entire purpose of the smart meter, since they can't read it remotely. Then I sat back and waited for them to realize that they weren't getting any readings from my house. I checked the foil periodically to see if it was still there. Today it happened. They had to send some one out to rip the foil off of my meter to get a manual reading! I found the foil ripped off and laying on the ground. Naturally, I just re-applied the foil and now look forward to them having to send somebody out each and every month to remove the foil if they want to get a reading. If everyone would do this, it would defeat the entire smart meter program! They would have to re-think all of the money that they are spending to install these dangerous and privacy invading devices simply because people can render them dumb with 10 cents worth of aluminum foil! I say everybody should rise up and "FOIL" this disgusting smart meter program! Hey, its my house, I can apply foil where ever I want! YOU MUST BE A LITTLE SPECIAL!!!??? NOT LIKE LIKE A FULL ON TARD, BUT LIKE HOMER SIMPSON SPECIAL... RIGHT...??? You complain of privacy concerns but don't mind a stranger coming onto your property every month to read a meter... You complain about the money they spend, but don't consider how much they'll save by not having to send some stranger to your house every month... Then you mess with them with your foil, and want others to follow suit... HOW FREAKING BORED ARE YOU... GET A LIFE... I signed up for this voluntarily, and I love it!!! What's not to... no strangers, accurate billing, up to date statistics, better stability and regulation for the power companies... You might be shocked to hear, but I even went as far as letting them put a special thing to turn off my AC a few min at a time when the plant is being over-drained so that they don't have to get more turbines... Just trying to help them help me... not just being some bored, ignorant prick... |

Hah... go learn an actual skill and contribute to a productive society... not get pissed and attack meters because you want to be lazy with a cushy lifestyle... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1526556 United States 08/31/2011 05:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So glad this is being confronted. These things are everywhere now in Southern California/Los Angeles. A group here was going up against the utility company with an M.D. writing letters for some who had documented 'environmental sensitivities' to be excluded from these meters. The M.D. included documentation of laws that are in place to protect those with environmental sensitivities. (I can get copies of these laws if needed, don't have right here now though) The local utilities blew it all off and did not budge an inch. Some people have installed anti-EMF devices in their homes to combat these evil EMF's that these LAME meters emit. There is a site called LessEMF.com that helps protect in some ways. BTW, did you know they make anti-EMF paint? Sheets? who would have thunk? LOL Quoting: suchacuriousgirl The foil is genius. Count us in. We will spread word around here bigtime. If you think one of those evil little boogers is bad, try living in a large apartment building and the utility box which holds 20-50-100+ of these things sits outside very close to your window. SOOOOOOOOOOO bad!!!!! Tin Foil is great. Keep this site going. It is nice to see this on here. And BTW, I would trade an average bill if need be for a decent night's sleep, like we had in the days before these things. To whoever said 'just call the company'. No way. This area has tried lawyers, lawsuits, M.D. guided lawsuits. You have got to be kidding me if you think that would work. Its the Mother F-ing PTB. FOIL!!! now I can go to sleep happy. I lOVE IT!!!! ps how do you foil a whole panel of these things? hmmmm. thinking. this happened to me. very emf sensitive. had to move my child and I out. got sooooo sick. still recovering .lost my security deposit, but felt like I almost lost my life. SMART BOXES ARE UNHEALTHY FOR YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN. WAKE UP AMERICA thank you OP |

I was thinking of ways to get around their smart metering ways myself, RF blockers, etc. Then I realized that are hooked right into the local fiber optic connection. Can't interfere with that or I'll be facing vandalism charges. On the bright side, I'm learning how to get into this system to monitor this data on my own and hopefully use their control parameters in my own way instead of being held to their automated system. |

A little bit of 2-and-2 please. And, guess what? You can always read the damn thing yourself! Depending upon where you live, they can estimate it for up to a year without penalties, and indefinitely if you do not complain to the regulating body such as PUC, PSC, etc. The thing about that is if YOU caused the meter to fail and they underestimate the bill for 2 years, then you have to pay the difference all at once when they finally get a reading. |
