Let's say the US would be divided into two sections, each section would be 100% self supportive. All equipment needed, man made and natural would be furnished.

Each side would vote in their own government.

One side would excel, generate business, expand, build, increase trade with other countries. Food would be planted, excess sold to other countries. Birth rates would be stable, medical available and crime very low.

The other side would collapse withing 18 months, murder, robbery, drugs, rape , name it because it will happen. Won't plant food for survival, will ruin everything that was given to them.

History has shown this, it's proven and happens everyday, corruption, power hungry thugs, murder, rape, vast rich lush farm fields that produced massive quantity of foods ruined.
