I love my bass guitar and IF I had the money I would want a Gibson Thunderbird. Part of the the things I love about it is it is American Made...
When you talk about the Fender bass, the first thing someone will look for is if its MIA, MIM or MIC. Made in America, Made in Mexico or Made in China.
The Thunderbird is a unique sounding instrument and my fear is that quality would be lost. It has a distinct rumble. That one thing that would make everyone turn the other cheak is if the pricetag lowered from 1100 beans to 500 if its now made overseas.
Quoting: Dorkinator Where it is made has no impact on the sound or "rumble" or whatever. I know guys with $300 Epiphones where they've changed out the pickups and pots and they sound great. Gibson quality has gone WAY down and many folks believe that you are only paying for the name on the headstock at this point. $3000+ for a Les Paul? Really? The best guitarist I know (old dude, used to play in Jeff Healy's band among many others) uses a cheap $130 MIC Squire strat as his main gigging axe, although he swapped out the neck for a vintage Fender one. Everything else is stock and the guy just rips live.
