You don't need fancy gadgets to garden better - just these two good tools. And that brings up the main point to be made in selecting any garden tool. The first is that quality rules. My pair of Felco hand pruners shown in this video are over 30 years old. They were the first tool I purchased in my nursery and they've never left my hip in that time. I have a holster that sits on my belt (use a carabiniere to attach it to a loop) so I don't set them down and lose them. This tool can be resharpened and all parts are replaceable unlike the cheaper tools. While Felco has developed other models in the past 30 years, you can still buy the original and parts today. The second hand tool I'm showing there is a Korean hoe or ho-mi. Forged of one piece of steel and the tang is well seated in the wood handle, these tools also last for years. i use it season long in the flower garden - from planting in the spring (it's perfect for planting young seedlings) to cultivating around plants in the summer to yanking stuff out in the fall. This single tool does it all. And that's the difference between a pro and an amateur when it comes to garden tools particularly hand pruners and cultivating tools. A pro has a few really good tools and an amateur has a lot of fashionable but not well-thought-out tools. Now to find that soap... I wonder if Dr. Bronners would work (smells great)... Never thought about that! Will have to experiment!!!  their rose scented soap or peppermint...the bars are about $4 though, and much smaller than the ones shown... I'm off...  I was out of dish soap today and after reading this thread I looked up how to make it. Found this: [link to www.diylife.com] Worked like a charm, used recipie #3 only I grated the soap bar and cooked it with the water and vinegar. Put it in the empty container I'd just finished. Used a funnel. lathered up just like regular dish soap, dishes are squeaky clean. Saved about $1.89. :) It wasn't a pure oil based soap like in the vid you pointed to, but I'm not all that sure you would need that. I love to go to thrift stores and find cheap candles, soaps, other things for emergency supplies (Always thought soap is one of the things people don't put enough importance on). There are always a ton of scented soaps around for dirt (ha ha) cheap. .50 cents or so. Makes your dish soap smell nice too, and offsets the vinegar smell. I'm gonna make a batch of detergent the way the vid said to do it, but use the scented soap I get at the thrift stores instead, I'll keep this bookmarked and let you all know how well it cleaned! |

We all need to quit arguing over us vs them, right vs left, who's "entitled" or who's not. When people learn that they can make a life for themselves without being forced to be a slave wage, they will. Right now people don't know there are options.
