Erra User ID: 1522673 Hong Kong 09/03/2011 05:01 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | HONESTLY Quoting: SeekTruth I'm from SOUTH GA and I do "respect the cicadas" but GOOD LORD. They are annoying as hell and they will make you hurt yourself (if you're a jack a**) trying to avoid them...or killing them (by them flying into you!)! What to do? They pis* me off like no other bug...I mean junebugs are annoying but at least they arent HUGE and LOUD all the time, PS - If anyone would like a cicada for their sons'/daughters'/neices'/nephews' bug collection for CLASS let me know...in some parts of our country these weird freakin' bugs would be quite the treat! It can take them up to 17 years to hatch for the breed in your part of the world. That is pretty heartless what you did. :( It was only singing....... |
SeekTruth (OP) User ID: 1508496 United States 09/03/2011 05:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That makes me mad...or, ok, maybe sad too! My dog had been pawing at it and then it "attacked" me with its high-pitched insanity and I smacked it down with a cup on the back porch...bc it was acting all 'june-bug-esque' and ridiculous... Hence my (slight) sarcasm...I feel very bad for killing it....I love the Cicada song in Summer, but Christ Almighty! I probably looked like Yoesemite Sam dodging bullets for that bug not to hurt it in the first place! Every "saint" has a past and every "sinner" has a future :) |
SeekTruth (OP) User ID: 1508496 United States 09/03/2011 05:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OK GLP bug lover faithful...he/she/it fell to ground and is now walking across the deck...seems to be okay. Dog is inside and no doubt trained on every move... Makes me feel (a little) better...what a strange (but cool and sometimes annoying) bug. Every "saint" has a past and every "sinner" has a future :) |

I must admit, I have stalked several loud birds with my air gun around 3am. Last Edited by Every Knee Shall Bow on 09/03/2011 07:38 AM |

Hey now, the AK is locked up in the BR and CLEARLY the cicadas know that, duh...they're just here to mix up my emotions... Anonymous Coward User ID: 1311586 United Kingdom 09/03/2011 05:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Don't feel bad OP. I like to tear the hind legs off of Grasshoppers and feed them to a Golden Orb Weaver spider that lives near my house. Watching the spider cut his/her web, while wrapping 6ish strands of silk from it's spinnerets around the grasshopper, while spinning the insect around from a single uncut strand of webbing is damn impressive. It's to the point now, that simply going near the spiders web, it begins to swing on it's web at me, expecting to get fed. It's not domesticated, but knows foods coming when it sees me. Now that makes me the devil as far as Grasshoppers are concerned, but an Angel to the seven legged Golden Orb Weaver. |

I cant stand spiders! BTW good start on your novel. Here you go, it looks like this only with a grasshopper. The hind legs are powerful enough to break the web and escape, so I give the spider a helping hand. [link to www.youtube.com] That video cuts out before the next part. Where the spider finds a weak point (abdomen, head) to inject its poison. Then it uses a second single strand to hoist its dinner to the center of the web. Typically I hate spiders. If a spider is in my house, it usually has a life span of 10 seconds max from the time it's noticed. But it's kinda chilling to watch. Like a GOOD horror movie. |
