Nurses Protest in 60 Cities, Demanding Tax on Wall Street- NEED MORE GROUPS TO DO THIS!!
Love this!! If all workers could do this, something may change!! I'm proud of my fellow nurses for doing something about the greedy politicians who make it hard for people to get the healthcare they need and deserve!!

Thousands of nurses and supporters descended on their local Congressional offices nationwide Thursday, demanding that Wall Street pay for the crisis it created.

In Boston, a town crier in colonial dress read an indictment of Wall Street’s sins against the country. (Photo: NNU) The 60 protests in 21 states targeted both Democrats and Republicans, with austerity champions like Eric Cantor of Virginia and Michelle Bachmann of Minnesota singled out for special attention. A blockade outside Cantor’s office forced his staffers to meet with a delegation, a request they had repeatedly refused.

Soup kitchens outside Congressional offices highlighted the devastation wrought by the economy’s collapse and worsened when politicians rip into social programs. Hundreds lined up outside Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco office to receive a meal.

Katie Oppenheim of the Michigan Nurses Association joined a group that served a meal in Jackson. When the nurses attempted to talk with Republican Tim Walberg, the receptionist would speak with them only from behind her bulletproof glass.

I would have loved to have seen the looks on their faces, and heard the remarks being made amongst the politicians who have excellent insurance and healthcare available to them... popcorn

This is not immediate doom, but please be aware of what is going on in corporate America, which includes hospitals, from where you EXPECT & DESERVE the highest quality healthcare available to you!!!

The U.S. came in at a shameful 40 out of 100 for the lowest in infant mortality!! We rank with a third world country!!

If you have no insurance, you are screwed- which many people now do not have. This should get people angry, but it won't until they have to be a patient. Sad.

thank you for the bump... the healthcare crisis I am afraid will sneak up on many.

US ranks #40 on infant deaths- on par with Croatia and others.

US statistics on healthcare quality- 44,000 - 98,000 patients or people a year die as a result...(references inside link)

How many hospital CEO's aren't unlike the greedy politicians in Washington...

I propose a tax of $0.01 on every 100 shares traded on any exchange. It would cut down on speculation, and allow the markets to focus on investment.

A penny tax on every email would eliminate spam, and probably balance the federal budget, too.
Not intended to be a factual statement.

I know some people would balk at that, but that is really a good idea-

a tax of $0.01 on every 100 shares traded on any exchange would destroy investment in small and micro cap stocks, thousands of which trade UNDER .01, and put many, if not all small publicly held start up companies out of business.

A tax of .01 on a $100/share stock and tax of .01 on a .001/share stock are two totally different things.

tax and spend, tax and spend, tax and spend......

I know thought is not required to post or protest or to make suggestions as to the nations tax polcy....but who the hell is Wall St?...As best I can determine they want every company that makes a profit and has ownership traded via equities to pay more taxes. I assume they mean ALL publicly traded companies regardless of what they may or may not be paying now. Would this also apply to the nurses union which is a corp? It may be listed as a "non-profit" yet has millions available to pay for their lobby and campaign funds to their friendly polticans. The BS is getting to thick to let it pass. Washington CD has a spending problem NOT a revenue problem. Give DC ALL "Wall ST's" money...they will go thru it in 6 months and be looking for more....but go on believing it's Wall St's fault for whatever wrong you believe has occured and get the govt. to beat up the bad guys...yea that'll show em...and next month we can go after some "NEW" reason why DC needs another 2 billion line of credit...this time I bet it's all the obscene bonus's nurses get "just" for agreeing to work !!!!!! OBSCENE !!

Agree with you on the taxes- what is the solution to this crisis? Also, can you point me in the direction of where the bonuses are then?? The administration gets the bonuses... the nurses get short staffed. The pt gets lucky to get a good nurse-

Nobody's happy about Wall Street bonuses, but nurses are greedy bastards who often are paid $ 50.00 an hour, and $ 75.00 an hour for overtime.

THAT is part of the reason for high health care costs.

Plus they go on fukking STRIKE sometimes, which should be ILLEGAL for someone in the health care field.
