My lawyer was able to negotiate it down to about 25% but I still had to pay it. A couple of months after that I got a phone call from an agency trying to collect money from my ex-husband's dead uncle - they found me even thought I had moved, remarried etc. It was because my ex and his uncle had similar names but they will find you. It's tough to prove that your husband deliberately wanted to avoid his debt by letting you have his real estate WHEN he already died. good to know. i didn't know this. It's about knowing the laws. Here is another thing for you to remember. 1- It's how and when you do it too because it's very important. For an example, don't let somebody else have your real estate or car 1 week or a few days BEFORE you file bankruptcy because it's easy to prove to the court that you deliberately avoid paying your debt. Of course, you can live in the same house or drive the same car WITHOUT any problem even though your name doesn't appear on this real estate or car. The court can't make this somebody to kick you out of the house because you own somebody money. However, they had NO CASE IF YOU DID IT 1 OR 2 YEARS BEFORE you file bankruptcy. 2- If you don't want debt collectors get your money from bank accounts, you go to the bank to withdraw everything and close yours. You tell somebody whom you TRUST to open an account for you and deposit this money in this account and you can use it daily without any problem. |

The phone companies do it for FREE. Do you know that you can have your new home phone number every 4 or 5 years if you ask phone company??? Your old phone number will be inactive for nearly 1 year before somebody else can use it. that is good news. i changed my number because my ex'es keep calling me. but, i would definitely change it if i were being harrassed by bill collectors. I know T-MOBILE allow you to have a new number after issuing you a number for 6 months. Here is another way to deal bill collectors. When they send you a bill, don't open it. Mail it back with a sentence " this person doesn't live here" or "wrong address' on an envelope. My friend in CA did it and it worked. He did it 4 times before they stopped sending. Furthermore, he also didn't pick up the phone when it rang. He answered the phone if he heard your voice on his answering machine. that is excellent advise!! i never answer my phone if i don't know the number. ever. i let it go to voicemail. i'm still getting calls for the person who had my number before me. i call the people that call for her and tell them she no long has this number. but i don't pick it up, i call them after. sending the mail back is very smart. really good advise. So, everyday I check my mailbox and it is filled with outstanding bills for the previous owner. I got tired of returning the mail, so I started calling each of them to inform them that this person had not "actually lived" at this address for at least 2 years & to stop sending her mail to me. On one particular bill which she had run up to the tune of $1,500 for the Toll Highway & she was still using that highway....I called the Toll company & explained she did not live here and stop sending her bills to my address. They said that by law, they had to keep sending them to me, until she herself phoned them and put in for a change of address. This was like a years worth of bills they had sent my way, & this was how they operate. I was shocked. A few days ago, I got her driving licence renewal forms. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1531745 Since that day, i haven't opened a checking account at any bank for 5 years because of FAIRFAX. After 5 years, my record was automatically deleted from FAIRFAX's database and i can open an account at any bank. even $1 can cause a mountain of trouble. glad to know that 5 years is the extent of the database record. i'll bet that other firms keep them longer. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1531745 She can call ATT or Verizon or whoever her phone company is and tell them that she wants a new phone number because she is tired of all advertisement and commercial BS calls during her dinner. They will do it for her in a heart beat because it requires by laws. that is excellent advise. many people have had to do this. i've heard that there are ways to find your new number, but have not found any actual evidence of this. It worked beautifully every time because i changed my cell phone and home phone that way by complaining to phone companies about advertisement and comercial BS calls during my dinner when I was in MA. The phone companies do it for FREE. Do you know that you can have your new home phone number every 4 or 5 years if you ask phone company??? Your old phone number will be inactive for nearly 1 year before somebody else can use it. Yeah, and that somebody always turns out to be me, and now I got these fucking debt collection calls every damn day. I don't even answer the phone unless I know who is calling. i understand. i have people calling for a woman who had my phone number also. i just don't answer or i call them back and tell them it's not me and to cease and desist. tinygreen (OP) User ID: 427545 United States 09/04/2011 12:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I had a bad experience with BOA 9 years ago. I withdrew 10 dollars more than I should from my checking account. When i moved to a new location, my bankstatement was sent to an old address. When i went online to check balance, i saw -80 dollars on my account because of fees for overdraft. I went to BOA branch the next day and paid 80 dollars. BOA took my money and closed my account and REPORTED me to FAIRFAX for having -80 dollars on balance EVEN THOUGH I ALREADY PAID BOA. Fuck them. some people really do need banks. they can only have their paychecks on direct deposit in a bank. i feel that is wrong, but that's what they do. tinygreen (OP) User ID: 427545 United States 09/04/2011 12:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | they are awful. i had trouble with them during hurricane ike. we had no power at the bank, they couldn't make my payment and so boa slapped me with 29.9% interest when i had 4.9% before. i had never missed a payment or even been late. i had paid more if i had extra money, but it didn't matter one bit to them. I wish you would go on my article and comment about your experience with BofA OP. Thanks OP you are very welcome. i hope i sounded coherent, i'm still extremely pissed at BOA. tinygreen (OP) User ID: 427545 United States 09/04/2011 12:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Pssst....wannna buy a big, green statue? Never say anything to them. I once told a bill-collector, "it isn't our bill"...and started getting nasty letters saying that I "promised on the phone to pay all of my debt immediately" (it WASNT our debt) and threatening court action if I didn't keep my "promise". Bill collectors are tied with phone solicitors for "scum of the Earth". bill collectors have to be very hard hearted and have no scruples. scum might be too nice a word for them. agreed, tinygreen: they are all bottom-feeders... i'd hate to be one of them with you on the case! you go, girl! and thanks, BB! i try to stay away from debt. i've only had one credit card of my own and i was screwed by BOA. now i ignore all incoming mail asking me to get a credit card. :stonehop: 'it is not the duty of the police to protect you. their job is to protect THE CORPORATION and arrest code breakers.' tinygreen (OP) User ID: 427545 United States 09/04/2011 12:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I sympathized with this person. All she has to do is to send her husband's death certificate. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1531745 It happened to me once when I was in MA. After my mom passed away, her doctor office sent me her bill. I informed them that she passed away by sending them her death certificate. After that, their collection agency sent me her bill and i forwarded them my mom death certificate. When her doctor office called me, i told them to look up her computer and they should know that she passed away in their freaking hospital. I was so pissed that i told them that they needed to go to hell to collect the money because my mom wasn't alive. Humanity was shitty. A vet just did this to me after they kill my dog and I had given them the last of my money to try and save her. I couldnt believe the receptionist calling me screaming and cursing me demanding money for a dead dog while i grieving. Horrible. Yes I blasted them on yelp and other places. good for you. they do not care if you are grieving in any way when money is involved. shame on that vet. nasty people shouldn't be caring for animals.
