This does not work well in my country. The previous owner of my property never put in for a change of address to all of her creditors. So, everyday I check my mailbox and it is filled with outstanding bills for the previous owner. I got tired of returning the mail, so I started calling each of them to inform them that this person had not "actually lived" at this address for at least 2 years & to stop sending her mail to me. On one particular bill which she had run up to the tune of $1,500 for the Toll Highway & she was still using that highway....I called the Toll company & explained she did not live here and stop sending her bills to my address. They said that by law, they had to keep sending them to me, until she herself phoned them and put in for a change of address. This was like a years worth of bills they had sent my way, & this was how they operate. I was shocked. A few days ago, I got her driving licence renewal forms. I wrote across it....moved....return to sender.I don't understand why the police can't track her down.

I don't know how Canada Post Offices work. In US, you can fill a change address form or inform your mail man about previous owner, her mails will never be delivered to your house.

You should have ignored and they would stop sending them to you. People will never send you anything when they don't receive anything back from you for a long time.

It requires patience.

Canada Post will do not give us (the real resident) any choice in this. It is up to the old tenant/owner to notify the post office with a change-of-address form, that we have to pay at least $30 for 6months of having them redirect our mail to our new address. I always do this, when I move, so that my mail will come to my new address. But the old owner of my property never put in for a change of address to the post office. Hence, after 2 years I'm still getting her mail. I have been returning it to the senders and still they continue to send it to me. Fed up with it. Now I just throw it in the garbage.
