North Carolina Man gets his leg broken by cops, then goes to jail because he wouldn't stand in court | |

He was just trying to enjoy his lunch outdoors and playfully answer a silly question. For that he was brutalized and didn't even retaliate in kind. Like I said, some cops really hate humor. Maybe it is because they know what a joke they are being. |

He claims he doesn't recall what happened. So his mental capacity is very limited having that poor of a memory. He cannot be trusted at any level with such a deep level of forgetfulness. He needs to be removed from the Force immediately if he hasn't been already. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1534924 The cop is still on the force because he was doing exactly what was expected of him. or do you not get that yet? Sooo you are saying he is EXPECTED to harass and maim innocent people to the tune of $$$$$$ from their insurance company and/or tax payes monies to be paid to the beaten taco eating man? Of course you are. No need to reply back. Go eat a taco... Maybe YOU are next! His job is to keep the have nots from killing the haves and taking their stuff, if you wanna simplify it down as far as possible. To do this, the poor must fear the police, and retribution for the smallest of 'wrongs'. Like for instance sitting on the wrong park bench in the wrong part of town. He was eating a taco.......... Now the have-not as you title him will definitely be a have-got from the settlement he WILL get. |

His record shouldn't make a bit of difference in this situation. This. It doesn't, well shouldn't matter what a person's history or record is. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1437365 Yeah unfortunately it seems there is a lot of cops out there now that are violent sociopaths and they will beat you down if you exercise your rights. I think it should become mandatory that cops where a little camera on their shoulder strap or something and that it must remain on for their entire shift (minus breaks of course) and that any interaction they have with the public must be recorded. It would take care of all the BS and lies and will also help police the police a little. Anything said during an arrest would be 100% accurate when court came along, no more "oh i dont remember that" BS. I know it will never happen because its too easy and solves too many problems. (also the cops spouses would probably start getting beaten more as the cops wont be able to relieve their insecurities on suspects so they will just take it home). What I dont understand about this case is they said the jailhouse nurse looked at him and sent him to the hospital emergency room, and then it said he woke up from surgery to find his belongings and a note stating the officer refused to testify at the trial case was dismissed. How in the world could a trial even be scheduled if he hadn't even had an arraignment yet.. that was an awful quick trial and if this cop claimed not to remember the entire incident well then wtf 24 hours later and hes drawing a blank. wow scary! Either I read the article wrong or something is very strange about this case. |

Either I read the article wrong or something is very strange about this case. You are right. The below is less than half: [link to www.courthousenews.com] Artis was taken to the Wake County Detention Center, where, unable to get out of the car on his own, and at his own insistence, he was put into a wheelchair. He was charged with "misdemeanor open container malt beverage and disorderly conduct," then wheeled before a magistrate at 10:10 p.m. It was Sept. 11, 2010. He says sheriff's deputies "continued to heckle" him as he was wheeled into court - they told him there was nothing wrong with him. Artis told the judge that "he could not stand because his leg was broken." He was "in serious and intense pain because of his shattered leg, was confused as to why he had been arrested, was extremely frustrated by the heckling, that no one believed he was seriously hurt, and that he was not getting urgently needed medical attention." It took Magistrate Bostrom 4 minutes to find Artis in contempt of court and sentence him to 30 days in jail, with no bond, Artis said. Eleven minutes later, Bostrom agreed to set bond at $1,000, according to the complaint. Artis spent the night in jail without medical attention and, says that "several times during Artis' stay in the holding cell he had to urinate on the floor where he lay" because jailers would not bring him a wheelchair. Nearly 12 hours after he was arrested, a nurse finally inspected his leg and "observed ... that Artis' left leg could not bear weight; that his left knee and lower leg area was swollen and deformed; and that parasthesia was noted." The nurse ordered him to be sent immediately to a hospital emergency room. |

Quoting: Lygeia 1534938 That being said, I did not see anything that indicated this man was a violent career criminal. One of the charges against him was LARCENY OVER $200. Didn't the bankers steal more from us than that? Regardless of his history as a petty career criminal (try getting a "real" job with a prison record, people with multiple degrees from Ivy League universities are having trouble with that right now), he did nothing to deserve being arrested, attacked and hurt and then sent to prison because he couldn't stand on a broken leg, broken by a police man who had no probable cause to arrest him at the bus stop in the first place. |

If you try to fight him that wont help, because every cop around will be bustin ass to get there so they can kick you in the head once or twice. Then they will just lie and say you resisted and they only used what force they had to. If you go to court the judge is going to believe the cops every time. Im not talkins shit to you or anything just sayin if youfight them, they will mess you up.
