I've seen the movie Melancholia tonight - a bit dissapointing(?)...
Here in Europe, the movie is already at the cinemas - and I went to see it with my wife. Just in case you wonder what this movie is about, here's my review:

If you're looking for action, loads of special effects and unbelievable storylines, please rewatch 2012, Deep Impact or Armageddon. This movie is something different. Personally I don't really like the way it's been filmed. Quite a few shots are made like they were done a handheld cam; out of focus at times, shakey and wrong focusses.

It starts off with some sort of slow-motion of things to come. This took some time, about 15 minutes in total - far too long for my liking.

The movie itself is divided into two parts. First part is about one of the sisters, Justine. Justine suffers from Melancholia, a disease which you wouldn't wish your worst enemy would have. This part is all about the wedding - as seen in the previews, and I have to admit it's a weird wedding. It basically has all the ingredients of your worst nightmare wedding: too late at your own wedding party, argueing family and even the groom giving up and leaving the party as she shagged some stranger in the garden. Beautiful scenery as it's a castle-like area with some golf-course enclosed (not that they go golfing or something). No word is spoken about the oncoming doom, the arrival of Planet Melancholia.

Part two is about the other sister; Claire, her husband and son. By this time all the family have gone, and so is the personel of the castle. This is where the oncoming doom gets clear. The day of arrival gets closer and the planet does a fly-by. Here's where the "continuity-error" comes in as far as I'm concerned: Planet Melancholia does some sort of U-turn and eventually collides with earth. At this second part of the movie, there's absolutely nothing more than the four main caracters, stuck at the castle for their remaining days.

In a way it's a nice film, even though it's a lot more about family drama than about the eventual doom.
Please see it at the cinema, if only for the chair-rocking-bass ending cool2

What's the deal with the deep footprints in the gold course as the guy is trying to walk? By the way, I saw Apollo 18 this weekend, rather a fail to me lol.

Thanks for the review, OP. I will be going to check it out here in the states once it opens if not only just to see Kirstin Dunst, who I absolutely love.

That's part of the slo-mo-intro. It doesn't come back later in the movie, like most of the scenes in the beginning. There's also a scene where the planet Melancholia (about 10 times the size of earth) collides with earth, that doesn't come back either.

By the way, I saw Apollo 18 this weekend, rather a fail to me lol.

I think I've seen every SciFi movie made and on a scale of 1-10, Apollo 18 was a 4, maybe a 5. I don't want to post any spoilers lol.

we were going to go see Apollo 18 at the drive in but it got panned by the critics so I decided to save myself the torture

Planet of the Apes was pretty good though...

I will go see Melancholia if it's at the drive in - the sound is good enough on the car stereo speakers I guess...

Yeah, I heard it was more of a relationship/chick flick movie than a doom movie, but I'm still game to see it. Oh, you'll be pissed at the ending of Apollo 18, lol.

Check out the new movie trailer on yahoo for "MelAncholia". The powers that be are using hollywood to tell you what is coming! And another signal is the release date.> 11-11-11
This movie talk about most people will die,but not all. It's kind like Nibiru.

But wait there is more! There is another movie scheduled to be released sometime within the next 5 months. It's about a "Blazar" from another Galaxy that destroys Earth and the world gov't depicted in the film are trying to get as far from this solar system as possible years in advance!!! Strange isn't it!!!!!! This one has a scheduled that they first stated as 2-21-12 . But they are stating now that it is subject to change and so is the name title in limbo .

this movie will be out on bootleg in the streets of manhattan before the offical release date in U.S.

Kind of like spaceballs!!! Because that's how our gov't is run!!

As someone who suffers from Melancholia, I've been waiting to see this movie.
Loved the websites breakdown of it: [link to www.melancholiathemovie.com]

"A melancholic by the grace of God, she has a hard time finding her place in the world and assuming all its empty rituals, but feels more at home when the world draws near its end. And then her sensible big sister Claire, played by Charlotte Gainsbourg, who thrives in the world and consequently finds it hard to say goodbye to it." -quoted from website.

Hollywood usually does two movies with a similar theme, especially when they are trying to get a meme across. It's predictive programming for the masses.

I've gotten to the point when I watch a TV series or movie I can spot the odd theme or dialog that was inserted by someone else attempting to get some social meme across.

Thanks OP, I was looking forward to that movie--still might see it.

I saw "The Guard" today and really liked it. Intelligent humor--great cast and story, nicely paced--got rave reviews. Oh yea, it was FUNNY!

You're a little right about the "artsy fartsy chick flick", but it is nice for a change not to see rioting people running with big flatscreens while doom is around the corner. The movie is more about showing all of us being humans, and we all have our own problems.

Oh, and ^Watcher^ - sorry for not taking any videos. The amount of doom shots were seriously too short.

Anybody else here from Europe that's seen the film, and would like to add to my review?
