*Smoke From Austin Brishfire Covers 1/2 Texas HELP NEEDED!!!***

I'm down near Brownsville and can smell acrid smoke from somewhere and see the haze in the air. Could be something from the ranch country between us and you...I haven't checked sat photos yet.

Fire has now expanded to 17,500 acres (about 45 square miles). 5,000 people evacuated. Fire is 0% contained as of now.

Below is the latest visible sat image. For those following, I marked the names of the towns we're discussing at their approximate locations and a red arrow showing the length and direction of current smoke column. If you look to the left of the red arrow, you can faintly see the smoke trailing down from Austin all the way to Corpus Christi. It looks like it's pretty thinned out by the time it gets over Corpus Christi, but if you're saying it's smokey in Brownsville...it is in the direct path of the smoke so I suppose it's possible!

I have no idea where it's coming from (Brownsville area) ....could be something closer to us. There's a lot of empty land out there where grass fires can burn. It's lighter now than this morning, but not gone completely. I haven't been listening to the local news.

I saw it coming in last night about an hour before sunset. It was strange looking, then the smoke smell and ashes became apparent. It's taking one hell of a toll on the allergies along with a headache that won't quit and the eyes burn. If it's having that effect on all of us here, I can only imagine what Austin and Bastrop must be feeling like right now. I feel for those living near the fires and those that are losing their homes. It's horrible.

First thing I want to say as a TEXAN is that I am very suspicious about how these posters (especially from UK = hmmmmm!?) are showing up on the different TEXAS FIRE threads & launching viscious attacks, debunking, so on... yep, quite suspicious that those ones may be black ops types performing their 'assignments' = weather warfare attacks behind all these fires or ??!?? Think that's crazy talk - huh - ... well, don't assume anything as it is now becoming apparent that the whole world is going into meltdown economically and countries are turning on one another in dog-eat-dog survival mode while grasping for resources & any advantages they can accumulate!!!

In DFW area there has been BREAKING NEWS on ABC channel 8 @ Dallas since noon today, Tuesday, Sept 5th, that the winds are shifting around some now down in Central Texas where the biggest fires are raging around Bastrop & Austin = the huge smoke cloud is changing direction and now drifting north towards the DFW region!

Also, the TXCN (Texas Cable News) channel is reporting that the shifting winds are causing fires north & northwest of Houston to suddenly flare up and new evacuations are being implemented.

The smoke last night here on the coast was so bad I had to go back inside after 5 minutes because it was starting to dry out my throat.

Looks like the fires have now burned 100,000 acres and destroyed 1,000 homes. Getting a bit out of hand!

Maybe we should do a Texas GLP meetup sometime and try to organize into communities or at least have a meet n greet...any thoughts?
