Do the Canadians want it? No, not them either. Can't imagine anyone in the lower 48 wanting it. So, just who is on our end of things? Is this another crazy thing Obama said yes to? |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1538004 Australia 09/06/2011 07:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Alaska was purchased from the Russian Empire on March 30, 1867, for $7.2 million ($113 million in today's dollars) at about two cents per acre ($4.74/km²). The land went through several administrative changes before becoming an organized (or incorporated) territory on May 11, 1912, and the 49th state of the U.S. on January 3, 1959. Perhaps with the broke American empire drawing to an ugly close, Russia's coming to collect its collateral? And yes, those tunnels will be plenty wide for T-80s to fit through. |

You might be onto something, Sell Alaska, that has to be worth a few trillion, right? Plus Russia will be right outside Sarah Palins doorstep, maybe she will learn some foreign policy by actually living in a foreign land. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1538004 Link [link to inhabitat.com] In what could certainly be one of the boldest infrastructure developments ever announced, the Russian Government has given the go-ahead to build a transcontinental railway linking Siberia with North America. The Bering straight is MUUUUUCH more treacherous than the English Channel. I hope they pull it off, assuming it really is a go. |
