Who says women are unhappy? I am a woman and I am happy. I am grateful for every second, for my incredible children, for my parents and for everything. I am very happy.... Life is far too short to not enjoy it.

Unrealistic expectations. They learn to whore themselves out to a husband from a very young age and think this will be the ticket to the good life.

I couldn't watch the vid but I do agree that our families are suffering due to the feminest movement. That said, my mother was able to watch my children while they were young and that made all the difference. Mothers working might not be the whole picture.

I really do not know many woman that meet this stereotype.

This is about the general phenomenon, there are of course exceptions, and I am glad to hear that your life is fulfilling for you. I am not "unhappy" but I feel that things have changed a lot and women now have a lot more on their plates, being that many are forced to work when they would rather be home taking care of their families.

Many women I know have to go back to work 6 or 8 weeks after giving birth, missing a great deal of their kids' childhoods.

Not only that but they have less time to create a good home environment, etc.

Clearly you did not watch the video. I would suggest that to make a relevant comment you should watch the video, since that is the topic of this thread. It's not about woman bashing.

Some women are lucky enough to have relatives who can provide a loving environment while they work. That's not to say that's the best situation. I believe that kids are better off in the vast majority of cases, being with their mom during their formative years.

I hope to be able to watch the video. Unemployment caused me to be able to enjoy my children while they were young. Our family was better because of it. I don't think people really stop to think about how great it was in the days of one car garages and "honey I'm home".

I am an educated woman and thankful for that but I wish more families had the choice rather than needing two incomes to make ends meet.

PEOPLE are unhappy these days, it's not gender specific.


I can't speak for anyone else but myself, I'm content with where I am in life..now that I'm a little older. Any unhappiness I felt was years ago when I first made my way out into the world, before I learned how to deal with everything and before I learned exactly how I wanted my life to be. Confusion creates unhappiness and chaos in a persons life. That was my biggest hurdle to overcome.

There are a lot of people on GLP who really have a crappy opinion of women. That's unfortunate. Nobody who has commented so far has watched the entire video unless they did it prior to clicking on this thread.

I am playing the video again, I started it as soon as I posted, so I know when the comments who have actually watched might begin.

To a point I do agree. I also have seen studies where the societies with the longest and healthiest life expectancy include the older woman in the childbearing. Think back in the day when the healthy young woman brought the water for the tribe. We really havn't evolved much past that.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I am happy to hear that your children had the benefit of you at home with them, and that you recognize that fact. I wish more families could have that situation.

My situation is not typical, but not ideal either. I am a single mom, but I was blessed to be able to keep my daughter home and never leave her in the care of strangers. I also home school and I get a lot of crap for it but I believe it's best for my child and that's what I have to go by...my gut instinct.

I understand your position, however I question why women HAVE to go back to work. I realize that there are some people who literally couldn't eat without 2 incomes, but, nearly everyone I know that complains about working and says that they HAVE to are driving 2 cars, living in a home with cable, high-speed internet, going on vacations, etc.

While I realize that this is the life that we are all supposed to aspire to, it is still a choice for many. If only one spouse works, you can do it with only one car. If mom is there to take kids to the library, do they need the cable tv and high speed internet? Could a vacation be had nearer to home? When you figure in the woman's costs for working: childcare, clothing (for her and children to attend daycare), gas to get to work, tax taken from salary, etc. quite often women could stay home cheaper....

But, that means cutting out the things that aren't necessary. It really is a matter of choice. I agree with you, that to live today's lifestyle we 'should' work, however, it is a matter of priorities and choices.

Families that have multiple generations living in the same household (or village as the case may be) give the children many benefits. This video and discussion is primarily focused on the "typical" family situation, which involves two parents together, with both of them working.

Absolutely agree. It is a choice. The "middle class" "American Dream" involves a lot of debt. Paying off that debt generally entails both parents working. Two cars, two car payments, etc. Many families pay over $200 per week per child to have them watched while they work.

One thing that may improve with all the unemployment is that one parent will be able to stay home with the kids and the kids will not be forced into daycare, preschool, etc. and they will bond with the parents more.

It's sad that many parents never really get to know their kids, or have as much influence on them during the formative years, due to them working so much.

My fiancee is saying she wants to stay home for a few years when we have kids.

I told her whoa whoa whoa, let me go back to college first since It's clear I'll need to be making 80-100K/yr for this to happen.

I think it's great that your fiancee is in touch with her feelings as a woman and future mother to value the time with her (and your) children. You will all be happier for it.

If you need to re-think your career to be one that can support a family on just your income, it's best you guys are discussing real issues prior to marriage, right?

Therefore women are happy...

with the way things are today, I can see why people would want to steer clear of the whole thing. There is less satisfaction in marriage and family than when mom got to stay home and take care of the family. Just think of when moms typically stayed home - if the kid got sick, mom was home, so staying home and getting home-made chicken soup was a real possibility. Now with both parents working, someone has to miss work or the kid has to go to school sick. I know many kids have to go to school when they are sick and the parents dose them with Motrin so they can be in school when they should be home in bed....
