I have just come back from the future. And everything this guy is saying is true.

I'm sure you can chip in with advice as things happen.

That said I am prepared, and in terms of building better houses here in NZ we are building in steel frame on concrete pads. This is supposedly the most earthquake proof. Based on trials and experience from ChCh.

I keep an earthquake box under the bed with clothes, boots and stuff to make a getaway after a quake. People in ChCh recommended this as the quake struck at night, and they struggled to find stuff in the dark. I just added a pinch bar (wrecking bar) in case I need to break my way out of jammed doors. It would also make a handy weapon .. in case of a home invasion.

Hi John, You can go back to the prophesy of Edgar Casey re California sinking.. and people talk about owning beachfront property in Arizona. In NZ the prediction is that you can own expensive beachfront property and suddenly you will find that you are miles inland! :-)....

Luckily I don't own any coastal property.. tho I live not far from the sea.. and I find the thought of walking on vast areas of land which was recently sea bottom most interesting. Tho there is suddenly going to be a lot of seafood going to waste. I will be interested in looking for shipwrecks.

I guess in times of such upheaval we may have other things on our mind.. like survival...

I have a collection of tents..I think we will be living in these for a while after the earthquakes. I look at what has happened in the Philippines as an example of what to prepare for.

We will be living in tents mostly because ceilings kill. ;). Stay mobile for those evacuations.

Hi John, Good stuff. You and I are on the same page. I live in a big house on a small farm, with a huge garden. It is spring here so it is particularly beautiful. All this is from years of hard work and sacrifice.. and help from parents on both sides.
Aside from the tents I have a huge collection of self sufficiency tools ( hand tools) which I don't necessarily use as I don't have to ( I use a power saw, and a chainsaw) but I could if I had to.

In case anyone thinks I follow John.. I have been doing this for 30 years in response to other messages. John merely reinforces what I already think.

I have followed the John Titor saga and read books about it. There is something to it IMO...tho it is very complex. The whole TIME thing is very complex.

J2 is the second Time Traveler I have chatted with here on GLP...:-). J2 do you know anything about the TT who showed up here some years back claiming to be from 2066 I think. His story was that he was a follow up to JT1 to try and see what effect JT1 had had on the timeline. He called himself David. He was unfailingly polite and quite credible IMO. I think the thread was called " A question for all of you". I may have some of this wrong.. and I do not seem to have the computer skills to dig this out of the archives.
It seemed that the early TTers had a BIG effect on the timelines they visited.. so time travel was actually stopped for a while till they could sort this out. This could explain why our timeline did not follow the JT1 timeline. ( which is why people say it was a hoax... but fail to explain a lot of other stuff).

Anyway.. as I continue to watch the news on the Philippines.. I see the effect of disasters on cities. Once you lose the infrastructure.. they become unlivable. Hell holes. And so difficult to fix. Look and learn people.. have a plan to get out of the city if you live in one. And after you get out.. you are still not home free...

Very light construction techniques will be invented by squatters.

That is unfortunate. Lyme is similar to Malaria and there are advances in Malaria. That should put you in the right direction. To say more would violate my first order. I can't help you too much on this puzzle.

My father has Malaria. It kills me not to be able to help researchers help him.

What is meant by "ceilings kill" ?

What he means is that in an earthquake the ceiling falls on you and kills you. In a tent you are safe because nothing is heavy enough to hurt you if it falls. Light weight mobile homes have the same advantage.

The other consideration is that tents and lightweight "camper trailers" is mobility. In the future you may have to move to escape floods, collapsed cities and other dangers. Your level of comfort will very much depend on your preparation.
