1911 fans, I went and shot the Kimber Super Carry Pro
I posted before about this, but - at that point - hadn't shot it. I followed up on the old thread but it was dead.

Long story short, I bought the Kimber Super Carry Pro .45 ACP on feel, one dry-fire, and the reputation of Kimber. The results are in:

This is probably the ugliest firearm I've ever bought, but only due to its two tone look. I didn't buy it for the look. If the frame were blacked like the slide, or the slide matte silver like the frame it would be rather attractive, but I've never liked two tone handguns. So far the performance outweighs the looks so much, I don't care about the two tone finish, and in person it is actually quite nice looking even with the factory color scheme.

[link to www.kimberamerica.com]

Enough of that, this gun is quite good despite its out of the box looks. It is precise, and beautiful, in its own way. It's a light 28 oz. and feels very good in the hand due to the curved back strap, or mainspring housing whichever you prefer to call it.

It's got an aluminum frame, steel slide, and four inch match grade barrel. The KimPro 8 round magazine that came with it was flawless. I also ran it with a Wilson Combat 8 rounder that it liked and was flawless with.

Accuracy was better than me. I was shooting the small shoot-n-see (head sized) targets at 30 yards plus off-hand and hitting nicely. It is a pleasure to fire, and very controllable.

This is an impressive 1911.

tfho

Oh, I forgot to mention that I put 120 rounds through it with no flaws whatsoever. That is straight out of the box and impressive. It's not exceptional mind you, but is something gun people would look for as a rating of quality, and accuracy of manufacturing.

I currently have three different model Kimber Ultra Carry 3" bbl. 45 pistols. I bought them all "slightly used", and all function and shoot fine. I have the Ultra Elite, Ultra CDP & Ultra Eclipse II. I like the Wilson Combat 7 round stainless magazines with the polymer followers. I think that you will enjoy shooting that Kimber!

Hey my friend how are you doing, nice to talk to you again brother.. I hope that you have good news under the sleeve.

You need to update me on 2 subject, the beautifull young girl and this brand new 1911..

I think that a very good performance pistol is always a good investment.. Sometimes they are not as good looking as other pieces but they are better in other department like stopping power, reliability, availability of the ammo, etc..

For example i have a Browning Hi-Power 9x19mm. Its a FN from Herstal Belgique, 13 rounds. I have this sidearm for almost 15 years and NEVER has let me down.. If you compare to the Glock 17, SIG P220, HK45 Compact, mine is ugly as hell.. But very reliable!!

I'm making planes to buy me a nice .45 ACP from HK or Glock but here the pistol cost a real fortune. For example (i don'y know how much cost in the US) but here a Beretta 92FS made in USA cost: 3488 US$ or 15 millions

Yeap thats right, the importer STEAL money as they want and there is not way to regulate the price. And if a very common Beretta 92FS cost 3.488 you can guess how much money can cost a HK45 or a Glock 21 4th gen, or a SIG P220

Wow all three are 3" models? Wow, I'm very happy to know they all function well. That is excellent.

Yes Wilson Combat mags are very good, but for mine I have noted that the KimPro mags work well also.

thanks, tfho

Hey 2Crazy4U, nice to hear from you again.

Yeah, well, there are two beautiful girls I know, but I don't get to see them much. Such is my life. I don't remember which we were talking about, but I'll be sure to update you now that I know you want to know.

As far as pistols go, I agree, function is better than form. Are you aware of what a 1911 is? I assume you are. I really like Browning Hi-Power guns. Those are sweet! If you like that, I imagine you must like the 1911. I used to have a Beretta 92fs too, it was a very nice weapon.

I'm sorry to hear that the guns are so expensive for you. They are not cheap here either. I'm lucky to have some knowledge and to have a good job.

I hope good things for you! tfho

OP,

Ironically… I just bought a Kimber Super Carry Pro last week.
It looks identical to yours. Mine only came with one clip which was disappointing, but this is simply the best feeling semi I have owned all around.

My other two are a Beretta 92 fs and a Glock 26(extended grips). While I am more used to the Glock(and yes it feels like a brick), it’s a much easier field strip than the Kimber.

The fact you cant field strip the Kimber without that little tool is a PITA.

Good choice I must say!!! :)

Yes, it is the best feeling 1911 I've ever held/fired. Most manufacturers these days only include one magazine. But, you are in luck. I just bought 5 more from here at an amazing price! Check it out. [link to www.the-armory.com]

I agree with you on having to use the tool to field strip it, but honestly, I've owned two other 1911's in my time and they were a PITA to strip and put back together as well. Man, they sure shoot nicely though. Enjoy it! thumbs

Dang man! A Beretta 92fs costs about $600.00 US here. At that rate an HK or Sig will cost a fortune. Good luck, I hope you are able to get it. Over here, Glocks are cheap. You can get them in the $400-$600 range.

Hey bro!!!

Yeap i know is a fortune, that is what i said that i'm making planes, cause import fireamrs is forbiden by law, and the gunsmith here always multiply the price to a factor of 4, 5 even 6 times the original price. So that is just a plan.. 40% reality/60% wish..

OMG now i see why you purchased this beauty.. Its a modern and compact (ready for CCW) with all the advantage of the 1911. I specially like the barrel with 4" and 16 turns to the left (dextrox i think is the right term)
The Tritium night sights are awesome for shooting in low light enviroments.

Really good bro, congrats!!

Dozens of them. Armed to the teeth. I'm outnumbered. Outgunned. But the alley is crooked, dark, and very narrow. They can't surround me. Sometimes you can beat the odds with a careful choice of where to fight.

Thanks for all the great comments guys. It is an expensive pistol no doubt, but you get what you pay for. It took me quite a while to get it. I was really impressed with the fit and finish, but especially the accuracy! These things are crazy accurate! The two main things you want in a pistol are reliability, and accuracy. So far this one is scoring a 10 with me.

If you get a chance to get one do it. I don't see how you could be sorry.

Re: 1911 fans, I went and shot the Kimber Super Carry Pro
Im the other guy who posted earlier about also getting a Super Carry Pro.

I went yesterday on 9/11 and took a ten hour course for conceal carry(10 hours is required here in Ohio). It went well, felt much better after a somewhat downer weekend of all the 9/11 coverage(no disrespect, it just seemed on 24/7, needed a break.)

Anyway, I used the trusty Glock 26 as I hadn’t gotten a chance to fire the Kimber yet. Wouldn’t you know it, I had passed maybe 600 rounds over the past month through that Glock, and I got a stovepipe trying to pass 60 for the Qualification at the range yesterday. (No Glock fans, Im not putting it down, just citing Murphys Law) Ive had the Glock since about 99. Its got a total of maybe 3000 rounds, never stovepiped before with it in my life. Winchester 9mm Luger ammo. Anyway, still passed with a wuick tap and rack.

Wednesday night, for giggles, Im taking the Glock, the Beretta 92 fs and the Kimber Super Carry Pro to the range to shoot 8 rounds through each at a target for comparison. I will post the results for those interested. Up front, I will admit I suck… lol or else Id post in a gun forum. I think we will see a difference though.

Sounds good. I'll be happy to hear how it goes. I'd guess all three to be quite accurate. I'm not a Glock fan, but it's just because of their feel, not their abilities.

If I had to guess, in this match accuracy would probably follow price. 1. Kimber 2. Beretta 3. Glock but since it's offhand shooting (I imagine) it could be totally different too.

Enjoy!

Just purchased my Kimber Super Carry Pro Custom. I know I'll have trouble adjusting to it, I've only carried an HK P7 M8. A totally different manual of arms. But I wanted to go .45! I'm looking at an Alien Gear inside the belt holster. I prefer a double anchor on my belt. Anyone with experience? I don't mind learning from the experience! I've got a dozen P7 holsters in a box before I found "the one"

With tax included it was about $1400 total. Nobody usually pays MSRP.

You paid $1400 for a kimber? That's insane. That's not a bad pistol, but its only worth half that. I paid less than that for a .50AE Desert Eagle.
