komi54 User ID: 1373850 United States 09/11/2011 07:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | *spoilers* Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1537959 This huge let down of a film parrots a familiar status quo meme: government is right and good, but fringe health solutions are "bad" and don't work. In the movie, the government eventually finds a vaccine cure, while a fringe online journalist played by Jude Law promotes a homeopathic remedy that is cheap and doesn't line the pockets of the pharmeceuticals. While the movie seemingly begins to formulate a provocative message about Big Pharma, it ABRUPTLY ENDS, leaving us with the implication that Jude Law's character had lied in telling his online fans that his alternative therapy had worked. It also ends with the implication that the government vaccine was a huge success. The oddest thing about the movie is how it ENDS -- very abrupt, just when you think the third act is about to revv into high gear, everything is resolved, with the Feds looking like heroes. Figuress...... We are all doomed. A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult. Before the people of the world... let it now be noted... that here in our decision, this is what we stand for: Justice... truth... and the value of a single human being. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1537959 United States 09/11/2011 07:52 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'll continue to bump this because I actually think it's sort of important. It's a very directed message of: VACCINES GOOD, ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES BAD. Some of the film APPEARS to stray into a territory questioning Big Pharma -- in the middle of the movie you get the feeling Big Govt and Big Pharma will be the bad guys -- but it goes right off the those rails at the end, when Jude Law's character is impugned and made to be a snake oil salesman. You get the feeling of a STUDIO RE-WRITE. The movie ends SO abruptly, without any climax. It's just *WHAM*, government fixed it, everything's fine. It's more complex than what I'm able to convene, but it's late and I just saw it. There's more to dicuss and analyze here. |

In just about every movie these days, there seems to be some subtle or not so subtle political, social or economic message delivered. What happened to movies being entertainment? It's getting to be a 2-3 hour infomercial anymore. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1541967 Ahem.... Vitamin D is truly legit. [link to www.vitamindcouncil.org] Virtually all of us become vitamin D deficient by the end of the winter. Ever wonder why we tend to get cold, flu, etc during the winter but almost never during the summer? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1541967 I'm sure a lot of it is. I use the word "hemopathy" because it was used once in the film. The rest of the film simply implies that this "alternative" therapy isn't viewed as safe or acceptable by the Feds. Jude Law's character argues Big Phrama can't make any money off it. You get the feeling of a serious re-write toward the end, because the movie goes right off the rails and ends with a thud and a big standing ovation for Big Govt. |

Homeopathy works just fine when used correctly. It works on children, babies and animals - so the placebo effect is ruled out. Anyone claiming homeopathy has been debunked is telling huge lies. |

Being the conspiracy freak that I am I would have changed the ending. My ending would have been.. After the Gov and big Pharma announce victory and started mass inoculations, they go back into the lab and find the inoculated monkeys dead. Jude Law (Blogger dude) was correct all along. The cure was Forsythia. But that would have defeated the purpose of the movie. It’s to show that homeopathic/herbal/alternative medicine is bad. Do a little research into the Spanish flu of 1918. Those who were treated homeopathically survived, but the young people who were given the newly created wonder drug, aspirin, were among the largest group of fatalities [link to www.nesh.com] No wonder the FDA Is trying to control and or shut down the herbal industry. BTW…Forsythia is a real herb. In Chinese medicine its known as Lian Qiao which is known for its wide spectrum antibiotic effect! Interesting... [link to alternativehealing.org] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1549200 United States 09/14/2011 02:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I just saw this in the theatre and you bring up some very good points! The gov't when they are interviewing Jude Law's character are telling him what they are going to accuse him of, but it's questionable whether it is the truth or not. He nods as though he knew that they would frame him in that way. Then the movie ends. The movie shows us: -Multiple shots of people taking the vaccine nasally, at which point they put on a bracelet to show that they are "safe" -Security lockdown and checkpoints at state lines preventing people from traveling -Riots and looting of stores and homes -Mass graves for the dead And you are right, the message is definitely that the vaccine is the only sane and safe way to stay alive, whereas natural therapies are quackery and fraudulent. This movie is blatant propaganda. They even had Sanjay Gupta (the Doctor on CNN) play himself. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 822098 United States 09/14/2011 02:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The first time I saw that there was going to be a movie called "Contagion", the first thing that popped into my mind was that it would be propaganda to scare more of the public into taking the vaccines for the next big false flag flu scare (or whatever it is going to be). Don't know if I want to see the movie now, it might piss me off too much. |
