Anonymous Coward User ID: 1545532 United States 09/11/2011 11:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | you're right... the core isn't molten, it's solid. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 475553 as for your intended post meaning though.. the earth's core is solid because of the humongus pressure it is under -- due to the pressure it has taken on a solid phase state. however, the core is nonetheless the hottest thing in the planet and the site of the nuclear-fission furnace that drives all of the heat. . |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1535578 No!... you haven't been there, none of us have. Humans have only been something like 2 miles into the earths crust. So no matter what gadgety doo dad you have, you can't definitively tell me whats underneath the lava. K.... DISCUSS!!! Can't be proven beyond ANY doubt, but it can be reasonably deduced by numerous factors: Seismic waves change speeds as they travel through the Earth's inner layers. Speed variances imply a solid center and molten midsection. If Earth wasn't solid (aka denser) sphere in the center, it would most likely spin itself into a thin disc (physics). Earth's gravitational pull can be calculated and based on experimentally derived data, mass/density can be deduced at various depths. I can't see gravity either but I know that it works! |

This is the thing though... no one actually knows what gravity is or what causes it. They say they can measure iot by measuring mass... but what gives an object mass?! |

It goes over the history and geophysics of the hollow earth. Best reading available and more belieable than orthdox science. I believe it entirely that rthodox science today is like believing the earth is flat. But I don't believe lots of hollow earth storeys either. what annoys me most is that science does not ssupport any belief system, except that that can be verified and duplicated. Yet orthodox science is no better than organized religion. |

Dr. House User ID: 1527778 United States 09/12/2011 01:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | While no one has been to the core to take samples, we have deduced through observation and measurements of other aspects of the earth. The Seismographs places around the world are one way we are able to deduce what the earth is made of, and if it is hollow (with an air pocket) deep down, or if it is full of something. Seismic waves travel not just over the surface of the earth, but through the earth as well. Their speed and how the wave form changes. We can get subsurface maps of the materials beneath our feet by using similar tools and using a minor explosive to cause a minor shockwave to travel through the ground. This is one way that they have revealed previously undiscovered tunnels and cavities such as old caverns and even old tombs and mines that were dug out and long forgotten. The biggest clue we have to what the inside of earth is made of is the magnetic field. Of the terrestrial planets (the ones of rock, not the gas giants) Earth has a very strong magnetic field. This field is not 'locked' into place as it would be if the earth was a solid. A 'locked' magnetic field is what you find with a permanent magnet, the poles do not move, the field strength does not change. Earth's field moves, shifts, and has minor fluctuations over its surface. The only experiment that has resulted in the same sort of movement and changes of strength and even flips is a spinning sphere of liquid metal. [link to blog.makezine.com] Similar experiments have resulted time and time again in a magnetic field that shifts, moves and even flips on a near regular basis, just as Earth's magnetic field has done and is doing. Before we were able to dig a mine a 2.4 miles down, or drill a hole a 22 miles deep, we accurately predicted what the temperatures would be at various depths due to pressure of the material of the Earth under Earth's gravity. Considering that we were very accurate to a hundredth of a decimal place of a degree of temperature on the way down with our mathematical models, it should follow that if we could dig/drill deeper that the model would hold true. No one can prove with 100% certainty anything. You can not even prove that that computer screen that you are reading this on actually exists. It exists with a certain amount of certainty that the laymen accepts as 'proof', however a true scientist can only say that in 'theory' your computer screen exists. So in a way science IS a belief/faith system. Just because you can show beyond reasonable doubt that 'this' Could Be the answer.. doesn't make it the answer. Gimme the facts baby!!! |
