I constantly have to be finding new music to listen to. It's become a full blown addiction.

It still amazes me that there are so damn many great metal bands in so many different sub-genres. I can just never get enough.

I need to pay attention to what you post then. All my metal no matter the genre comes before 1997. Theres a few "newer" groups here and there but not many...

Wow, I bet your music collection is freaking ridiculous. I've only been alive for a little over two decades and mine is pretty impressive.

I do like many other genres of music too, but metal is where my heart is. To me it's the most consistent type of music and it seems to also be the most diverse.

I definitely prefer older music as well and I definatley understand the reluctance to check out newer bands (for every great band there's 100 shitty ones emulating them). Wading through all the crap is completely worth it though when you find a gem.

Same here. I'll be 26 in March; I knew who Ozzy/Black Sabbath was when I was 5. At age 9 I heard Pink Floyd's Ummagumma, and by 14 I was listening to black metal. Ever since its been a rather boring diet of various extreme metal genres and industrial or electronic music. My record collection is vast yet somewhat vague and obscure at best but Ive lots of classic gems on vinyl, rare items on certain colored vinyl or those limited to a certain number of copies. Being a female I can confidently say Im a rare breed. Just look at my thread. Not 1 female that I ever recall posting in here, ha...

Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd along with Led Zeppelin were and still are my favorite classic rock groups!

In my early twenties I got HEAVILY involved in psychedelic and progressive rock of the 60's and 70's (too many bands to mention). Then I mellowed out and started listening to ambient/space, folk, classical music and a lot of alternative rock. Believe it or not, I think that musical background is what eventually lead me to love and appreciate metal!

Technically, Killing Joke is not a doom metal band, but they do have some killer songs! They were heavily influenced by bands like Black Sabbath, MC5, Stooges and Velvet Underground.

I agree. I got to listen to the groups in which a ton of metal bands say are their influences. I must say though I love my metal there is still nothing better than turning on something classic, vintage even! My Ummagumma album is hoisted high above on my wall. I dont let anyone touch it and if I let them, I let them know they are the 2nd, 3rd, etc. to physically get their hands on it!

Experimental, atmospheric, psychedelic black metal with a hint of jazz fusion. It shouldn't work, but I love 'em.
