According to Watson, the team is drawn to the use of sulphate because of its particular ‘shininess’ to visible light. However, the team will trial other particles including clays, salts and mineral oxides. The goal is geoengineering, or the "deliberate, large-scale manipulation of the planetary environment" in the words of the Royal Society of London, which provides scientific advice to policymakers. In this case, researchers are attempting to re-create the effects of volcanic eruptions to artificially cool Earth. Will lead to millions/billions of deaths in places like India where large population will lose there plentiful food supplies.
