I'll google that. :) not sure what it is, but im serious about this because this poses a big problem. Everything else is planned, except this kind of important glitch. PENG (OP) User ID: 1551564 United States 09/15/2011 04:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I know. :-(. We bought backed up to my dads property years ago. He has alot of mountain property so we got a pretty good deal obviously. And still need to make money in the city to continue our stock up. *sigh* "May the road rise up to meet you.... May the wind be always at your back..." |

Its the old points style ignition system, no HVEI, or other "chip" run vehicle, including fuel injection. I did a google but I get alot of history on them. Do you have a search term I can use? :) "May the road rise up to meet you.... May the wind be always at your back..." |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1106916 United States 09/15/2011 04:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Oops forgot to mention i also have 3 little ones tagging along. Its a 7 hour drive. :-( If you wait until TSHTF, you will never make it there, so don't even bother trying. It would be better to make as many preperations that you can at home now. The only way to make it there safely is to get there BEFORE TSHTF. This is the problem with alot of people's plans. They buy a place in the mountains, stock it up, then go back to the city and wait for the event, and that will be too late! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1482432 United States 09/15/2011 04:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If it is one adult and 3 kids ... well ... you are probably shit out of luck. If it is 2 adults though 2 bikes with 2 tag-a-longs should allow you to make 20 to 30 miles a day even in the mountains (on flat land you should be able to make 40 to 50 miles a day if nice weather easy), assuming you can somehow use the expressways. Back roads are more problematic because they are both longer in distance AND more ups and downs. Why no car? In the city and can't have one? ... or can't afford one? A complete rethink on your planning for getting out of your local "Dodge" may be in order. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1106916 United States 09/15/2011 04:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Get an older motorcycle with a kick start, mid 70's or before. Forget about a car............the roads will not be passable when they are filled with cars that won't run. Your only bet is a motorcycle, but with 3 kids........I don't know how you will manage that one. Better to go to your location BEFORE TSHTF. |
PENG (OP) User ID: 1551564 United States 09/15/2011 04:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was going to suggest a bicycle with a tag-a-long carrier that you tow behind ... but 7 hours away is a LONG distance, going through the mountains is TOUGH, and with 3 little ones it is TOUGHER still. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1029401 United States 09/15/2011 04:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We managed for thousands of years without cars i am sure we will manage for the most part. If you are in the city best not to use a car to escape anyway, better to use the sewers even than the roads. Get out of the city in the sewers and steal a car when out of the city. And steal an old car, not one with a computer, lol. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1548490 Or even motor bikes. If there is a river through the city use a boat to get out. Except you wouldn't have had to deal with 5 times the population, guns, and self centered assholes who are absorbed in the ME-ism cult!!! |
