COVINGTON BRIDGE - OBAMA - DRUDGE
I don't know how to do a link yet, but if you go to the DRUDGE REPORT there is an article entitled "Obama Disses Both Boehner And McConnell In One Stroke" which takes you to a site called "White House Dossier".

Next Thursday, Obama will travel to the Brent Spence Bridge, which connects Cincinnati and COVINGTON, Kentucky.

McConnell is the Senator from Kentucky and Boehner, while the bridge isn't in his district, all of the TV publicity will beam all the info on this poor tired bridge all over Ohio (and the US).

Jay Carney denies anything political in the choice of this bridge to highlight Obama's Jobs Bill, although there are 30 bridges - 12 per cent - in DC which are in need of repair.

So there you have it. THAT's why all of the suddeen attention to this bridge. Another photo-op for Obama.

By the way, wasn't the FIRST stimulus supposed to be taking care of infrastructure projects? All we got from that was Obama chuckling about how the "shovel ready jobs weren't so shovel ready haha".

And doesn't the Gov't take taxes from every gallon of gas for road and bridge maintenance? Where is all of THAT money??

Will Obama be travelling in his two new busses imported from Canada to go look at the bridge?

Oh, and the bridge is apparently already scheduled for rebuilding January 2014. White House didn't even do a decent background information check on this one!!

The GOP candidates should do campaign promotions from the empty parking lot at Solyndra. Actually, the building is empty now too. They should hold one of their debates there.

I am now going to shamelessly bump this because it's my first thread as Eggcellent, and also because it's very important to connect the dots and see that this whole thing is just another taxpayer-paid campaign promotion by our "Quid Pro Quo" pResident.

This is interesting because we were talking at work yesterday about the bridge in Louisville being worked on and one of my coworkers said he had heard that the Spence bridge was next.

 Quoting: Sleeping Giant

It's called "Obama Disses Both Boehner and McConnell In One Stroke" and it's in the right-hand column (out of three). The reason I thought people might be interested was that a few days ago there was a thread here from people wondering why the Covington Bridge was closed and remarking about how their commutes were going to be much longer because of having to go a different route.

This seems to be the answer - an Obongo photo-op and a poke in the nose of the two top Republicans. bump

Damn, man, when I read "Covington Bridge" and "Obama," I had this sudden flash, like something was going to happen there. Just a feeling, not based on anything, but it just hit me like a brick. The term "Covington Bridge" rings the same to me as "Dealey Plaza" or "Grassy Knoll." Or I could just be hallucinating. ;o)

My town had one of the shovel-ready projects. It was a road repaving. Never mind that they had begun the work approximately a year beforehand, and were doing a section of this major road a bit at a time. As soon as the shovel ready gate was opened, the plans were sent off and approved immediately to be paid from federal funds. The deadline didn't change, they didn't put more men on the job.

Oh yeah, we also had a fountain built in front of city hall too, but it had been approved quite a while before the shovel ready bill passed, so again there was no increase in jobs.

 Quoting: Eggcellent

In my opinion, the shovel-ready requirement was intended to ensure that there were no big projects, and no professional services like engineering or architecture would be funded. They were willing to bleed out a few pennies to a couple road crews, but wanted to be sure nothing significant happened.

Then just for the hell of it, they found or probably created reasons that some of the little work they did approve had to be cancelled.

Now Obama wants to build infrastructure. That's good, but it won't get my vote in 2012 if I vote. He should have done this two and a half years ago.

I suppose almost all the projects were like that. How could they be shovel-ready if they hadn't already been thru initial approval and the architecture and engineering work already complete.

It was intentional to ensure that demand for labor, especially professional labor, received no help.

From the Center for Public Integrity....

Stimulating hypocrisy: Scores of Recovery Act opponents sought money out of public view
By John Solomon and Aaron Mehta
5:48 am, October 19, 2010

....

"Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., another icon of the anti-spending conservative movement embodied by the Tea Party, has complained the stimulus bill will require “massive tax increases” to create short-term jobs and ran a campaign ad this month boasting that she fought against “the failed Pelosi trillion-dollar stimulus.”

"But she wrote more than a half dozen letters to federal agencies on behalf of proposed stimulus grants, including one to the Transportation Department for the St. Croix River Crossing Project that she argued “would directly produce 1,407 new jobs per year while indirectly producing 1,563 a year – a total of 2,970 jobs each year after the project’s completion.” The project did not win the award.

"Bachmann told the MinnPost news site, which worked with the Center on this project, that she still opposed the stimulus because it “piled a massive amount of debt on our children and grandchildren” but saw nothing wrong with her letters. “It is my obligation as a member of Congress to ensure stimulus dollars are spent on the most worthy projects. I did just that when I supported applications for the TIGER grant program.”"

....

"But some of the GOP’s architects of the anti-stimulus campaign themselves tried to secure money from the program, including McConnell, the Senate leader, and Pence, a spending hawk often mentioned as a 2012 presidential contender, who also helped craft and sell the GOP’s “Pledge to America.”

"In July of 2009, McConnell told CNN that “The stimulus was a big mistake. I think we can fairly safely declare it now a failure.” Two months later he signed five letters requesting funds from the Department of Transportation for a variety of stimulus projects, including a railroad rehabilitation program that he said could “attract industry, create jobs, and move goods through areas underserved by national highways.”

"At least one of McConnell’s requested projects was accepted, with $20 million being earmarked by the Department of Transportation for a bridge replacement between Milton, Ky., and Madison, Ind."

Not Just Dems: GOP Also Has Solyndra Ties

By Chris Frates
September 12, 2011 | 8:00 PM |

The collapse and FBI investigation of solar-panel maker Solyndra after it was given more than $500 million in federal loans by the Obama Administration has been a field day for Republicans. And RNC chairman Reince Priebus went big today calling the company, which axed 1,100 workers, a"prime example of stimulus failure."

But Priebus took his criticism one step further by saying the company represented "the kind of taxpayer-funded cronyism this White House said it would eliminate" because one of the company's major investors, George Kaiser, was also an Obama fundraiser. And Kaiser is one of the first investors in line to be repaid now that the company is headed toward bankruptcy, according to Time's Michael Grunwald.

The other investor slated to be paid back with Kaiser? A partnership affiliated with the Walton family of Wal-Mart fame, which, Grunwald also reports, leans Republican.

And that's not the only GOP tie. San Jose Mercury News scribe Dana Hull reported that Solyndra CEO Brian Harris is a registered Republican.

So with the White House going to great pains to point out that the loan guarantee program Solyndra used started under then President George W. Bush, it's only a matter of time until Democrats start publicly throwing around the GOP connections.

Yes, it's true that the beginnings of financing these companies were initiated during the Bush Administration (one MORE thing which Obama never gives him credit for) but there were many companies being considered, and there was a process which they were going through to evaluate their suitability for the loan guarantees.

Obama wanted a photo-op and a campaign soundbite, and chose several companies from the herd, all of which had made rather LARGE contributions to his campaign, and told his handlers that he wanted Solyndra's vetting process in particular to be speeded up and streamlined so he could be there on a specific day in order to make his great announcement. It's coming out NOW, after the fact, that there were e-mails, phone calls, etc. involving financial stability which would have removed this company from the fast-track if not from consideration altogether had the vetting process been allowed to continue. Instead, in his quest for a backdrop for his "Green Jobs" announcement, Obama galloped over those red flags like a horse heading for the barn when it hears the grain-bin lid squeak.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona has constituted a special law enforcement posse to investigate allegations brought by members of the Surprise, Ariz., Tea Party that the birth certificate Barack Obama released to the public April 27 might be a forgery, WND has learned.

The posse, under the authority of Arpaio's office, will consist of two former law enforcement officers and two retired attorneys, headed by Michael Zullo, a retired police detective originally from Bergen County, N.J.

WND confirmed with Zullo and with Arpaio's office that the investigation into the Obama birth certificate has been sanctioned fully by Arpaio's office. The investigation, they said, will be conducted with "utmost diligence," and the investigators will be authorized to utilize subpoena power.

Arpaio spokesman Lt. Justin Griffin told WND that Arpaio's posse will consist entirely of volunteers and will avoid incurring any cost to the taxpayers of Maricopa County.

"I am very grateful that Sheriff Joe Arpaio is a sincere man of his word and a fearless, patriotic American," Brian Reilly, a spokesman for the Surprise Tea Party, told WND.

The document in question, which has been described as a fraud by numerous analysts and experts in imaging, documents and computers:
