Denver is the Mile High City. That's Elevation above sea level. Naturally, if some type of disaster strikes like (hypothetically speaking) a pole shift, or the ice caps melt...which would result in a huge shifting of water (Huge Tidal Waves) it definately helps your survival if you're a mile above sea level.
