Slides explaining Elenin for non-GLPers
I've read dozens of Elenin threads, I found it so hard to warn non-GLPers about Elenin. There are too many contradicting theories and disinfos.

So I decided to write self-contained slides for the uninitiated: mostly simple facts; fewer conspiracies and controversies.

You can find it here:
[link to sites.google.com] (web page)

[link to sites.google.com] (direct PDF download)

I've spend a lot of time studying Elenin, and I've done my best to put important info in one place concisely. PLEASE spend 30 seconds to give it a try. This might help your friends understand the imminent hazard.

Besides, please give me good Karma if you find this useful. I would like to use Karma Pin to keep this thread visible a while longer.

=================================

Some additional info: no matter Elenin has huge mass or not (see another pinned thread), Elenin is a special comet:

There are around forty significant long-period and non-periodic comets in the past 100 years. (such comets may be charged)

We only know Comet Elenin, Comet Lulin, and C/1980 E1 have inclination less than 5° among them.

However, Comet Lulin has perihelion distance more than 1 AU and doesn’t comprise hydrogen cyanide. C/1980 E1 is even further away from the Sun.

So there is no similar comet to Elenin in the past 100 years. Elenin is not another boring comet.

[Update in Sep 21] I explained why some people are wrong for thinking other comets also formed similar angle in those mega quakes in pg 7 of this thread Thread: Slides explaining Elenin for non-GLPers (Page 7) They don't take inclination into account.

One more thing. If your feel it worthwhile to improve the English in the slides, I'll send you the editable PowerPoint file and say many thanks hf

Nice synopsis! :)
Before Enlightenment chop wood and carry water. After Enlightenment chop wood and carry water.
Thich Nhat Hanh

When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion—when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing—when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors—when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you—when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice—you may know that your society is DOOMED. - Ayn Rand Atlas Shrugged

You can fit all that info on 2 pages for fucks sake.

It´s nit picking events to fit an idea which is the path to errors and basically being wrong.

Please check their inclination. These comets can never form a line with Earth and Sun.

In other words, they cannot influence the Earth indirectly from the Sun.

Im sorry to break the news.

If you could tell me what caused earthquakes before elenin came into the picture that would be sweet.

OK, OK we get the message. You've written some tosh about correlations between a small, unimportant comet and earthquakes, none of which would stand up to real scrutiny, and now you're going to try to be another "Mr. Doom" on GLP with your badly-produced thesis.

Sorry to disappoint you, but Elenin is just another minor comet, one of dozens in the inner solar system at any time. It's not even the current brightest, and may well be breaking up.

As someone noted on another site, my car has more gravitational influence on the earth than a small comet like Elenin.

You could repeat your analysis with other comets, and you'll get exactly the same sorts of correlations. In fact I recall that someone already did, and found that a couple of other comets gave even better results!

Still, it's good that you've put your "work" up there, because, as we all know, the internet never forgets, and people will be able to laugh and point at your idiocy in years to come...

PS - yes, I have read the whole thing, and it's laughable tounge

I wish Elenin would disintegrate, but I don't see any evidence.

I spent 30 hours writing these slides. I don't think it's a waste of time if Elenin just disappears. Life is good without doom.

You said you read the whole thing. Did you notice:

1. Firstly, we don't know the exact mass of Elenin. Secondly, EM force is one trillion trillion trillion stronger than gravitational force. (Ask any physicist)

2. You just said "someone already did, and found that a couple of other comets gave even better results!"

Just name one comet!! Actually Astronut mentioned Comet Lulin has correlation with earthquake, he thought it's just a statistical fallacy.

I checked it but didn't find strong correlation. Besides, Comet Lulin is also one of the three long-orbit comets with small inclination in the past 100 years.

The correlation is very clear. A M8.6+ happening in a specific week has the probability less than 1/500. Only 4 M8.6+ happened in the past 40 years. We have one M8.8 and one M9.0.

I also explained why the other comets won't influence earth like Elenin did in the FAQ section.

Very good effort OP
Just wish all that hard work could have gone in to something more productive.
I realise this is GLP and its all doom here, but you must also realise that people come on this forum to get away from realities of life. Its like a break for them to let it out and get a bit excited over nothing and behave childish.

But i think you took this a bit to hevay on the chin and thought it is real. Its not. Its just a game for GLPers.

Just look at the poll that was conducted here last night regarding Elenin doom. On the whole over 70% did not think it was anything to worry about. It goes to show that people like to play but when they are facing reality they will tell you different than what they are posting on this forum.

It is very nice work you have done. There is no denying but i think you are flogging a dead horse here.
26th will come and go without any problems. And please don't come back with a 7+ quake giving it to us as proof. Your own slide shows that on ave 1.2 of them happen a month.

Have also thought if these events were really going to happen and devestation would stop the world, then why the hell all nations are continuing with their plans for future.

Hi, I do appreciate your words. I understand what you're saying. Do I waste too much time in this "conspiracy game"?

1. I don't list conspiracy theories in these slides. But it doesn't mean I don't believe them. Actually I've heard dozens or hundreds of such rumors, and I have good memory.

2. There are too many coincidences around Elenin.

a) the two mega quakes
b) timing of X flares in 2011
c) Elenin happens to have small inclination, small perihelion, and long orbit. It's the ONLY comet matching these features in the past 100 years.
d) all the activities in Denver in late Sep
e) other conspiracies (ex: "Deep Impact")

3. When we prepare fire control, we don't want to use it, right? Actually people don't use fire control in 99% of the cases.

In my estimation, the potential danger of Elenin is more than a fire happening in a house.

4. I guess most people who believe Elenin is harmless are not from scientific/engineering background. People are usually too gullible to believe absurd rumors but refuse to understand hard numbers at the same time.

5. I don't think the governments are planning for the future as you said. You surely know the fiscal status of the UK. The Feds are also destroying the future slowly after they abolished the Glass-Stegall act in 1999 and deteriorated fiscal disciplines after 2001.

=====================

Besides, thanks to those people for bumping this thread hf and thanks for the good Karma! (I need 6 more)
