Elenin didn't survive perhelion.

You spent a lot of time for nothing.

The next month is going to teach a lot of retards a serious lesson.

please enlighten us that seek truth, if we are wrong, so what, at least we try to discover for ourselves what happens around us and why? I think its a great job by the OP, hes presented the facts and some conjecture relating to the properties of the comet.

No, you don't. You just accept nonsense like that currently being put forward about Elenin without doing any kind of additional research, and when anyone tells you anything different you dismiss them as "shills" or "debunkers". You don't really want to find out the truth.

"hes presented the facts and some conjecture relating to the properties of the comet"

Conjecture, yes, he's got plenty of that, but he's seriously short on facts...

I guess AC 1553717 saw some photos from an Australian astronomer. Elenin became dim around the perihelion.

Be aware of these:

1. Two X-class flare on Sep 6-7. I won't be surprised if Elenin was hit by a CME and became dim similar to mid-August.

2. Even if Elenin does disintegrate, it doesn't mean Elenin will become harmless

This is a common mistake.

If Elenin really causes mega quakes, it must interact with the Sun with either gravitational force or electromagnetic force.

In the case of gravitational force, Elenin's mass won't disappear, and the debris of Elenin will follow the same orbit according to basic physical laws.

In the case of EM force, even if Elenin breaks up, the charged debris will still follow the same orbit. Some net electric charge may be neutralized but won’t totally disappear. (basic physical law: charge conservation)

Too bad you didn't include a picture on Elenin after 11 Sept, cause that's about when it disintegrated.

At least you included a link to a site with pictures on Elenin:

[link to www.aerith.net]

Look at the pictures and spot the difference.

OK, since you ask, I'll give you a bit of explanation.

I'm not here to "complain", as you put it, but to offer an alternative point of view. Something that usually gets called "debunking" here on GLP, although I don't actually mind the term, since it kind of implies that what I'm contradicting is in fact "bunk" :)

I've been actively posting against these sorts of stories for many years (I used to be a regular here, but only visit occasionally now). I originally got involved back in the heyday of Nancy Lieder and her "Planet X" stories, when she and her followers invaded the sci.astro newsgroups trying to get some validation for her hare-brained ideas.

She managed to build up quite a following, and some of those people made seriously life-changing decisions based on the fear and panic she was spreading. There were people selling up houses and moving location, people leaving good jobs and uprooting families. People getting divorced, and even a few arrested over it.

I've seen the sort of things that apparently rational people can do when they become convinced that "doom" is imminent, so I feel some sense of duty to at least try to make people think on threads like this.

Whether it's about Elenin (a rather insignificant comet really) or the sun or moon out of position, or the earth's axis supposedly tilting, then I'll put forward my expertise as an amateur astronomer, and try to reassure people who might go off and do something stupid based on what they've read, that, really, doom is not approaching, and everything in the ehavens is proceeding as normal.

Of course the majority (like yourself, I'm sure) are level-headed enough that they're not going to ruin their lives over something as stupid as this, but there will always be a few who might, and it's for them I'm posting...

I like these Elenin threads, very informative but I just get the feeling nothing will actually happen and it is another fear conspiracy. So many people tried to scare me with Y2K and that old man this year that predicted the apocalypse.

You're not debunking. Calling a poster names and being disrespectful is just that-- being disrespectful. You've brought nothing to the table.

The fact you would say "expertise" as an "amateur" astronomer means your point of view is just as suspect as anyone else's.

I know very little about astronomy. I'm a salesman for the government. But what I DO know, is the government is planning for something major, and a lot of strange coincidences seem to be following this comet.

Is the comet to blame? I can't say. But so far, all I've seen is name calling to refute it. Even NASA's head could only state "It couldn't possibly be causing anything" with zero rebuttal in the form of something I could look up and verify.

Oh, and just to add...

Don't you think it would have been good if someone had convinced even one of the Heaven's Gate followers to not take the action they did?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1552980

And I suppose you would have convinced them by attacking them? Don't attempt to add nobility to your caustic personality.

I appreciate all the work you did. Let's hope this is all some ridiculous mistake, or some hugely impressive psy-op by TPTB... too many coincidences lately with POTUS and NASA in Denver on the alignment date, not to mention congress being on break for that entire week. I didn't really worry about it at all until these odd things came to light recently. I don't believe in coincidences. Well, I do, of course, but not THAT many coincidences. Something feels weird. Hate to admit it, but it does....
