Why is dying in mass, so much scarier to most people than dying an old person alone in your bed?
I've yet to understand the concept that millions of people dying at once, is far worse than dying alone in your bed, or burning, or drowning, after all the millions who died, were just as assured of death, even if they just died off one at a time. Their death was inevitable.

Why when death happens in mass, does it all of a sudden become so much more important? Or is it that when millions die, they're just numbers and maybe they're not as important, I'm really not sure, but I personally say if the end is coming, give me a lawn chair, a big fat cigar, and a glass of wine, and let's sit out on the sidewalk and watch it's approach.

I think dying in some huge event along with millions of people is actually less scary. You have the feeling that you're not alone. Everyone else is going through the same thing with you. We'll see what happens in 2012

You only get one death, yours sounds rather boring actually, I mean what are you going to tell everyone on the other side? Everyone else will have some fantastic story of either prolonged suffering, or exotic death, and all you get to talk about is "well, I went to bed, and now I'm here". I mean really whose going to want to listen to that story?

You don't understand. It doesn't matter how you die or who you die with... You die alone. It's your own death, your own experience, you can't relay the experience or share in the feelings or emotions. I think that people want to feel comfortable when they pass on, it's traumatizing listening to screams of terror and pain when you yourself are waiting for the same-thing.

I've always told people, if a nuclear weapon goes off, let me know where it's going to be because I want to be at ground zero instead of having to die from prolonged radiation exposure. I doubt if any death is totally painless, but there probably wouldn't be any prolonged suffering. The signal of what was happening probably wouldn't even make it to the brain.

I do understand that your journey is yours and yours alone. I understand that you do only get one death, and most spend it very unwisely. I understand that it is part of life, and for most I guess the uncertainty scares them more than anything else.

Exactly one more reason, that I'm not sure digging a hole in the ground is such a great idea. I mean what if the atmosphere gets ripped off the planet, then your going to be wishing you had stayed above ground and died with everyone else, instead of buried in a hole knowing your going to eventually die from lack of atmosphere, that you can never truly enjoy life in the free air again.

Is that what really drives most of these doom predictions is the excitement of mass death?

Or is it a more noble cause of wanting to warn others?

Well, one would certainly have some immediate company directly on the other side.

There are teams of beings specialized in the movement of groups of souls to their destinations.

Because of pre-conditioning from birth. In old westerns it was whole towns. Kevorkian was a smokescreen so people wouldn't care or even look into instant death versus millions of ways to slowly & legally, kill yourself with cigarettes, GMOs' & car exhaust fumes (smog).

5* and request pin on this thread... very thought provoking.

I'm not sure if it's scarier to die with millions than to die alone, but with the constant doom on our doorstep these days, the possibility of it happening soon, is allowing our imaginations to run…. in anticipation of the possibilities ... Our imagination can provide an end that is often scarier than reality.

Parental instincts are a powerful thing. I think they go far deeper in some instances than one can explain. I know first hand that there are those that I am spiritually connected with. Those in my life who I know what emotions they are feeling even though they are hundreds of miles away. To stop to consider that the life you helped bring into this life being obliterated before it had time to flourish would be crushing.

I often say the same thing, I don't care much about myself any longer, I've lived through the first half of what is considered to be a normal life span, so I don't have too many regrets, plus the state that the world is in now, one has to wonder if it will be worth hanging around for. The Powers that b are destroying most peoples hope for a future. It is my daughter who I would shed tears for.

First, it's dying en masse.

Second, most people are scared of dying, period. Going out with a million others while they're young is no greater comfort than when old and in bed. Fear is fear.

no it is a much bigger comfort.

because that 'going alone in old and bed' will probably happen after a long period of disability, shitting your pants, not even being able to hear or eat or taste or something. or worse. and it may probably involve pain too.

Re: Why is dying in mass, so much scarier to most people than dying an old person alone in your bed?
When you are cut down instantly it is more disruptive to your soul/spirit, because you weren't ready for it. Imagine you are at a spectator sport, and a plane crashes into the stadium. Think of all the people who can't make it home to tend their pets, or have unfinished projects on their desks at work, or never got a chance to do or say something important that they were waiting to get home from the game to take care of. That would cause a lot of upset and turmoil as you enter the afterlife.
When you die in your bed or hospital of an ilnness, that is so much better because you have time to take care of things and prepare, or at least others can find out what needs to be done and have time to take care of it before you die. Then you can die in peace and not have to hang around watching people try to do the best they can with the unsettled unfinished things you left behind.

For me, it's the causes of mass death that make it seem scarier. I'd rather have a heart attack in the middle of the night than see a 500-foot wall of ocean headed toward me, for instance, though the sight would probably give me a heart attack before impact. It's a tough call, though, because I'd also rather die on impact in a massive catastrophe than suffer for weeks, months, years...

Re: Why is dying in mass, so much scarier to most people than dying an old person alone in your bed?
Why would death be scary at all? It is only a change of form, a freedom from the body. Our body only holds the energy of the soul. It is not our soul that is hungry, cold, hot,or in pain. It is is body that feels these things and keeps us from truly being one. Our soul is energy, a tiny little energy and like all energy it cannot be created or destroyed but only moved about. So the only thing to fear is changing back to something we forgot.
