Real researchers do not use Google sky to access sky survey data because it's not a primary source of sky survey data. That means google didn't take those images, those images were already taken years beforehand and can be accessed directly without google's processing to make it a stitched mosaic that can be easily and rapidly streamed over the internet. In other words, it was already "blocked" to reveal those stars long before google came along, google simply grabbed the data to make a mosaic out of it for use in their google sky program. Google doesn't specialize in astronomy, they probably didn't even realize that they could have used an alternative plate, in fact they probably used a batch process to grab the data rather than hand selecting it plate by plate.

Excellent, another place for me to spread the truth! Thanks! And again, it allowed them to see more stars closer to Sirius than the unmasked version, which is also readily available but google sky/microsoft failed to use.

I said to folks to open your mind a bit, so you are not and you bot still continue to spam the thread with that nonsense over and over again. At this point I suggest the OP to take measures against trolling/spam.

Oh I agree, now that your mind is a bit open, please explain why the uncensored plate is still available and has been for years before google sky ever came into being?

I cant be bothered breaking your post down, it is getting a little long winded.

You do not care that you are rude, yet you complain to seer about being called assmut and the like, why do you think you are called those names! I would assume it is because of the way you interact with others.

you still did not explain, why would they block it out on those certain programs that the public use not researchers, there I re worded it for you as I think you did not understand what I meant, you say researchers do not use those research methods as they are not good enough 'basically' so why bother blocking out the star on only the research software the public would use, as another poster put here they and myself would get lost within those complicated software programs, so it appears that the star is blocked for public viewing unless you are an established researcher.

It does not add up, sorry I do not wish to argue with you or let this conversation degrade in to nonsensical name calling.

B) The primary source data used by google sky WAS made for researchers and existed YEARS before google sky ever did.

That is why it is "blocked" in google sky. You get what you deserve if your extent of accessing sky survey data is "google sky" or "Microsoft WWT." That is not what those programs are for, they are not primary sources.

Astro I commend you on your comments and knowledge, those of us that are listening learn a lot from you.


If only others could pull that veil up and listen to both sides of reasoning instead of reading something and believing in it, Youtube videos and Google are not a source of solid information.

The fact is these images from NASA has been removed in Google Sky as well, don't matter if those images are not owned by google, the fact is that google are using it and Google Sky is pretty popular, it has lots and lots visits per day, SO it can be used for info/disinfo as well to the mass. This a very Elementary Concept (so not for stupid arrogant spamtrollbotshills).

Maybe they do it on purpose because they know conspiracy nuts will go "omg something's hidden here!!!" Then they'll go crazy clicking all over google sky looking for more hidden stuff and drive googles hits. Then the rumors start floating around and spreading, which brings even more conspiracy nuts to drive up their clicks. Just a thought.

That could possibly be very true, I mean, how many people actually use Google Sky for education, I can see children using it in the classroom, but, surely adults don't think it is 100% correct/fact ... do they

I just checked google sky this am...and a big red X covers Sirius...very interesting...for it was not there last week!

And sometimes I can open Google Eath and notice a big red X over Yellowstone because my overlay hasn't loaded ... does that mean Yellowstone has gone or possibly moved to New York ?

If they wanted to hide something, why wouldn't they post an edited/fake image? They could easily just airbrush anything they didn't want you to see, and nobody would no the difference. This is what they would do if they were actually hiding something. They wouldn't post a big freakin' attention-grabbing hole in their skymap.
