Saw sun and moon right by each other - how is it possible ?? | |
TruthSleuth (OP) User ID: 1315023 United States 09/18/2011 04:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here's the eclipse schedule. [link to eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov] I mean is it possible I was seeing the sun? I mean I really don't think so, it was a dimmer clear moon-like object that was next to the light shining through, not like a part of it. Plus, I see the moon all the time during the early morning, driving to work (I get in at 7), so I'm used to seeing it! Anonymous Coward User ID: 1325715 United States 09/18/2011 04:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There is nothing strange or unusual about this. In fact, it is extremely COMMON. You can see this practically any day, morning or evening, except new moon. I'm 31...I've seen this since I was 5 or 6. It's cool to see so hope you enjoyed it. But it's nothing strange...quite the opposite. |
TruthSleuth (OP) User ID: 1315023 United States 09/18/2011 04:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So, this morning, husband and I were driving for breakfast tacos, and husband pointed up to the sky to tell me to look at the sunlight shining through the clouds. Just cuz it looked cool. I saw the bright light, but then also saw the moon right next to it. Like clear as day, no doubt in my mind it was the moon. I told him, but he couldn't look back up (was driving) and told me that wasn't possible, as moon normally is in different part of the sky at this time. I'm not good with directional stuff in the sky (not an idiot, love astronomy, but I just get mixed up West and East when I'm out and about). Anyways, a few minutes later the sun was clearly visible and there's no way I could see the moon, even if it was nearby, at this point. Quoting: TruthSleuth Not saying anything's "off" or wrong, was just truly curious how I could have seen this. We were driving in northwest direction in Austin, TX a little after 830 AM when this happened. Is "breakfast tacos" what they're calling acid these days? I'm outside of Austin, and I assure you, the sky was normal this morning. Um, for starters, I never said anything was abnormal. But I know what I saw. It was the moon, or something that looked identical to the moon, right by a shred of light from the sun shining through the clouds. NO DOUBT in my mind. Now, could it have been a weird optical illusion making the sun look like the moon? Could it have been a weird, but at the same time normal anomaly in the sky? Who knows? I saw it very briefly, and even if you were looking up in the sky this morning, that doesn't mean you could have seen what I saw at that particular moment in time. The sun looks different one second to the next. Last Edited by TruthSleuth on 09/18/2011 04:45 PM The Truth Sleuth Conspiracies aren't theories. |

Interesting, if true! Just never saw it before like that. I've seen sun and moon at same time, but in total different parts of sky. The Truth Sleuth Conspiracies aren't theories. |

It has something to do with the fact of their different orbits...I think. Yeah, you can get a POV like that often...I wake early so I see it frequently and it's pretty damn cool! I've even seen the moon later in the day which is neat too. |

I don't know what you saw but it was not possible today at any rate today unless that moon did quite a spin around the earth, as it was where it should be last night and was to set here at noon today. I was not looking, but it was fine last night and I didn't notice with the sun this morning. |

When they coincide, there's a Sun eclipse. (Looking at the sky is not very entrenched in your habits, is it?) Oh it is! I look up all the time. Guess I just haven't caught this sight before. Now if you said that you saw the moon right next to the sun and the moon was full, then I would be freaked out bwahahahahahaha!! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18579461 i thought there was a permanent dark side to the moon?! but if they are next to each other in the sky and the sun is obviously behind the moon, as in a greater distance away from us, then the darkside would be facing us, and it would have to be a full moon, no? am i right? |

We were out fishing and there were big heavy clouds, mostly clear sky with hot bright sun beating down. When a heavy cloud partially block the sun we could see this round shape, not moving or anything it made me question if it was the moon. Once the clouds passed over there was no way we could see it. The first time I saw it and missed the opportunity to take a picture or show it to the other person. I waited and kept watch and finally it appeared again and I was able to take a picture. |
