Daniel,
You have been bringing up some good scriptural comments that generally point to idolatry. Since we are imperfect any one of us (even as believers) can find ourselves putting certain things above God, even things that are good things. This is why I am so thankful that in the book of Hebrews all the faithful are listed without mentioning the times they failed.
And knowing my own tendencies, I can usually identify one of my own idols by getting to the bottom of negative feelings when they crop up. I can resonate with Paul's "wretched man that I am" speech in Romans 7, and it thrills me that the speech doesn't end there, but rather in the gratitude that we can have for a savior who died for these things. Then I think this gratitude is what spurs us on in our individual walks with God. And I think it reminds us to readjust our mindsets in the manner of Colossians 3.
Thanks for bringing those things to our attention.
Jen
