Can someone explain what this "star" is next to the moon? (PICS) (SOLVED: JUPITER?)
First let me start off by saying that this might be nothing major, but it has been making me wonder as of lately.

Everynight when I'm outside smoking my nature, I tend to look up and gaze at the moon. Facing east, right under the moon.. like proably the 5 o'clock mark, there is this really bright star! The brightness of this star is amazing! Here in Miami, you can barely see any stars, and if your eyesight is pretty bad like mine, then it's even harder to see them. This star on the other hand is as bright as ever, I can see it without squinting.. it's basically very big. Below are some pictures I took of it with my "iphone", the quality isn't that great but hopefully you get a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about.

Does someone have an idea of what this bright object can be? What planet? Constellation maybe?

Thanks,

BlankZ

That is Jupiter. It is very spectacular right now. If you have some binoculars you can see the moons.

as posted it's jupiter

i'd suggest you visit this site:

it's a skymap via website so no clunky star software to download, and of course its free

plug in your city and check your map.

then you can uncheck all of the extra deep space and dim stuff in the table so you'll only see naked eye stuff like the moon, bright stars and planets.

as you can see, it's really easy to get informed about what you see in the sky. now, if you do see something, that isn't on a sky chart, then it's really really worth mentioning as many places as you possibly can, especially with general direction of where to look so others can confirm

Woah is it? That is awesome! I was with my sister sitting in the car and I was scaring her, telling her it was Nibiru lol. Then, I started scaring myself a bit too, so I backed off this theory. Then every night I look up towards the moon, and there it is the same star.. relativley in the same place. My friends had told me it might be mercury.. but, I don't know how to tell.

Are you sure it's Jupiter? I can tell you that it most certainly could be, it's REALLY bright! It's beautiful :)

I always knew the applications software was out there for me to try, and play around with.. Never really have fun playing with that type of stuff since I really don;t understand it much. It fascinates me to the fullest! I will check out that application. I have google sky, but I don;t understand much of what I'm reaading.

Jupiter is my favorite planet!

I have been seeing it here in the uk almost every night for about 8 weeks now, i am partially sighted but can see it with no problem at all. i know it is Jupiter but i have never seen
it so bright and it has been for weeks i personalty believe it could be one of the signs of the times and this verse comes to mind.

Luk 21:25 "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.

I think it was 3 weeks ago when I first spotted it. My eyesight is pretty bad, as I sit so close to the t.v and it damaged my eyes throughout my life.

Likewise, seeing Jupiter with the nakid eye is really easy. I would love to see it with high powered binoculars. Like that one poster above had mentioned. Would you really be able to see the moons with one? I would think that Jupiter is too far to see without a very good scope.

i think this is about the 3rd or 4th time jupiter+moon show up in the sky together in just the last 5 years, so i'd bet it's fairly common. i can imagine people who've been watching the sky for much longer than I can say it's always happening

Nibiru can only be seen during the day. It rises and sets with the Sun. Hence other names for Nibiru, "The Morning Star" and "The Second Venus".

I've seen some other videos of Nibiru supposedly rising with the sun in Alaska and nurmerous other isolated places.

I'm a little skeptical about Nibiru, I'm not going to say it isn't there, or that it is.. because, I simply don't know. We will all have to wait and see. It's a scary possiblity no doubt!

As of lately there have been a few people trying to debunk nibiru or comet elenin relating to "new information" these unknown sources are confirming. Like, Elenin has not survived perihelion faze. This is dumb, because wouldn't nasa confirm this? It's no secret elenin exist. Anyway... rant
