It depends how one perceives God. Also the label we choose to give this energy is not as important as the connection we make with this source of unconditional love and peace.

On my knees in body conscious awareness is not going to help me achieve connection imo, what I have experienced to work however is relaxing the body and moving into awareness of myself as a spiritual being who has the absolute right to tune in to an infinite source of purity and peace if I choose to.

Prayer and meditation only work if we are in the right awareness and consciousness. Pleading on our knees, unaware of truth is not going to benefit us imo.

from my experience (energy/consciousness) and vast travels:

there is (in order of being):

the unknown source of all things in this universe
the 1st female aspect in form is goddess
the 1st male aspect in form is god
the 1st male and female aspect in form is the universal spirit of space
the 2nd male and female aspect in form is the universal spirit of celestial objects
the 3rd male and female aspect in form is the universal spirit of archangels, elements and organic material
the 4th male and female aspect in form is the universal spirit of animals
the 5th male and female aspect in form is the universal spirit of dinosaurs

universal spirits of dinosaurs (the first beings on earth with individual source consciousness in universal spirit form)

universal spirits of humans (the second beings on earth with individual source consciousness in universal spirit form)

I wanted to fill in some thoughts from the viewpoint of one who is fully devoted to Christ.

Most of Christian prayer eventually reduces to "Thy Will Be Done" and involves a sense of surrender of self/ego. While I'm sure that there is "pleading" in some form in a lot of prayers, I think it's more of a "beseeching" than a begging.

I agree with OP that any particular prayer posture is optional.

For me personally, prayers is an "opening up" process, an opening of the heart (which is where the surrender to self/ego comes in) so that the love of the Father can enter in deeply and begin to transform me from the inside out.

And in some ways it becomes a way of life. I've said to others that for me prayer is like breathing. In my yoga practice when observing the breath, I might use the phrase, "Breathe 'me' out; breathe You in."

(I didn't mean to derail this excellent thread or to "preach" at anyone: that's not my style. I just wanted to give a fuller explanation of Christian prayer beyond the one-liner of the A/C.)
We become like that to which we are devoted. - Choose wisely.

Hi Xen

I have never come across an order of being as you have set it out.

What I feel to be a fit for me (impossible as it is to put the intangible into words) is the concept of a centre energy, a Supreme consciousness which does not incarnate into a physical body and who does not deplete in energy as we do through incarnations. This energy stays constant and unlimited in absolute purity. Around this centre seed would be the sparks of consciousness (souls) closest in capacity and so on like a rosary of stars around the sun. All equal and as important, all pure but with differing capacities and entering the material world drama at various stages according to when the general level of consciousness being expressed matches the capacity of each individual.

I believe the deities really did live on the Earth but over time (re-incarnation) they lost awareness and fell into body consciousness. Selfishness, a quest for power over others and accumulation of material objects (ego, greed, lust, anger and attachment) became more important than collective awareness, values and noble actions.

I believe now to be a kind of confluence age where we spring from our deepest ignorance back to absolute truth. A time of recharge and reset, which would be impossible without a source of absolute purity to tune into. I believe I (and all souls human and animal are) am travelling back to the start - to myself in my absolute pristine condition but that I cannot do this without the intervention/support of Supreme/creator/universe/source/etc.

That's the best I can do in explanation of where I feel I reside at present. I remain open to change too as my own personal experiences deepen. The greatest paradox for me is grasping the idea of having personal responsibility and being an individual (separate) and at the same time building collective/universal connection to source and all conscious beings, even matter. Boggles the mind so I find it best just to 'be' and work out the details later :)

You are not de-railing or preaching at all Life and Love, you are clarifying exactly what authentic prayer is. I picked up from the a/c's statement that he/she was not coming from a spiritually connected place and I responded to that particular energy rather than to Christianity as a whole.

The problem with many religions, not just Christianity, is that we have forgotten who we really are and we do not know who God/Creator is either and so prayer and meditation become blind faith instead of a spiritual child going to the father/source in love and confidence.

I enjoy finding as much authenticity as I can in any spiritual teaching and for me it wasn't until I read the Essene Gospels (Peace/Revelation) that a feeling of truth of that particular religion struck a cord for me. I believe it is important to build and maintain great love and respect for all the prophet souls who come to guide us during the course of our long journey and if we feel it is our place to be 'near' the consciousness of a particular prophet/spiritual teacher, then that is a personal choice too and one that should be respected by others.

this is virtually identical to that of the kabbalah

it groups everything together which is fine but I much prefer to clearly define the parts :)

it's like saying a car is just a car when in fact it has wheels, motor, chassis, steering wheel, driver/s, fuel tank, radiator, exhaust, etc...

Interesting, I have never really looked into the Kabbalah. I learned a yogic lifestyle in my younger years where I chose to lead a spiritual life observing certain disciplines for a number of years. It gave me a strong spiritual foundation but later I had valuable lessons to learn in other areas of life. Now I find myself in a place of more authentic spiritual awareness but it is not rigid or austere, it flows - life in all it's parts is the journey.

I look forward to learning more of your spiritual insights and definition of their 'parts' here and in the Consciousness thread.

Boggles the mind so I find it best just to 'be' and work out the details later :)

thanks for you view

this is virtually identical to that of the kabbalah

it groups everything together which is fine but I much prefer to clearly define the parts :)

it's like saying a car is just a car when in fact it has wheels, motor, chassis, steering wheel, driver/s, fuel tank, radiator, exhaust, etc...
quoting Xen

Interesting, I have never really looked into the Kabbalah. I learned a yogic lifestyle in my younger years where I chose to lead a spiritual life observing certain disciplines for a number of years. It gave me a strong spiritual foundation but later I had valuable lessons to learn in other areas of life. Now I find myself in a place of more authentic spiritual awareness but it is not rigid or austere, it flows - life in all it's parts is the journey.

I look forward to learning more of your spiritual insights and definition of their 'parts' here and in the Consciousness thread.

awesome! i didn't mean the kabbalah that most people know. i met someone of great compassion who has studied the kabbalah for over 30 years. we had a long discussion and shared views, parts of what you said were very similar to his perception. that's all i was referring to by "this is virtually identical". thought the rest was excellent

Yes there really is no doubting it after such profound experiences. The losses are difficult to bear for so many reasons but I guess they are the biggest teachers in bringing us to a place of true reality.

Re: Spiritual Preparedness - simple practices and meditations to increase self-awareness
Here is a list of some of the original spiritual qualities and virtues of the soul:-

Purity
Peace
Love
Happiness
Joy
Bliss
Humility
Cheerfulness
Integrity
Honesty
Compassion

These aren't things that lay outside of us and have to be acquired, they are already there within. Imagine the soul as a shining diamond of light that over time has been covered in dust - the dust of ego from false identities and body-conscious fear.

When we meditate, rather than focusing too closely on the 'dust' it is important to remember who we are behind it, the spiritual diamond with pure spiritual virtues. If we remind ourselves during meditation that we already are peace, we already are joy, then we are more likely to bring ourselves into an experience of 'being'. This helps to clear off a little bit more dust with every meditation and we are also more likely to 'see' clearly when we fall into false consciousness and identities during our every day lives. This in turn brings our attention to how we treat ourselves and others, even on the level of thought. Thoughts are very powerful.

If we could analyse the psychological dust we carry around with us, here are some of the things we would find:-

Fear
Ego - extroverted and introverted
Greed
Desire/lust (to acquire and control)
Projective anger
Projective blame
Intimidation of others
Subjugated by others
Thoughts, words and actions based on false beliefs and identities - (remember all the little i's mentioned earlier in the thread)

During our waking lives, a lot of focus goes onto the dust and onto preserving and maintaining the many false body conscious identities we juggle. During meditation, it is important to give ourselves permission not to focus on the dust and it's manifesting problems - it is essential to give ourselves time to explore our true nature of being, while being gentle on ourselves when we wander back to the dust. Of course practicing this during our daily lives and in activity is also important.

Awareness of self as non-physical energy, an observer even of my thoughts is essential when it comes to going past the many layers of dust and grime. Meditation in body conscious awareness will only bring relaxation to the body and perhaps a little reprieve from stressful thoughts by focussing on a mantra an object or sounds etc. True experience can only come from actually 'being' who we really are.

THE GUEST HOUSE

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

-- Jelaluddin Rumi,
translation by Coleman Barks
