sulphur smell prior to earthquake - indicator?
Right - I decided to do some research in NZ archives about gaseous/sulphur smells prior to earthquakes.

To see if these smells in US could indicate anything. This is what I have found and I will keep looking. I own a book about accounts of a huge quake in the Wellington area in the 1850´s - I am sure I remember accounts of a smell prior.

This excerpt is from a Wanganui quake in the 1800s.

"A friend, who had camped by the mouth of the Rangitikei River,
with a herd of cattle, on the night of the earthquake, lately
told me that the ground there was extensively and very deeply
fissured, and that a sulphurous smell was distinctly perceptible.
A similar smell was said to have been perceived at Wanganui,
but I did not observe it at Waitotara. "

Here is an excerpt from the New Madrid quake in the 1800´s. Same sort of smells. I must say that most of these smells have been after the quake - from the new fissures etc. If I remember correctly that is what happened in the NZ 1850´s quake. The stench after the earth moved.

"Strange effects were noted in contemporary writing. Several persons riding horses recount how the horses stood still and braced their legs. One was described as groaning and the rider believed the horse was dying. Wild animals were found at daylight collected in the yards and gardens of the residents. People experienced both physical symptoms and psychological disorientation. Many counted the fear of being swallowed by the earth as most frightening.

Actually, the exact number of deaths will never be known. More died in the river than on land and most of the deaths on land were from drowning. There were no reports of buildings collapsing and causing deaths. Many attempted to describe the sounds as a distant rumble of thunder or as a carriage on a paved road or even as the sound of heavy artillery. There were many descriptions of flashes of light or a red glow in the sky.A smell of sulphur or of brimstone was frequently mentioned."

I thought the strange North American odor threads were the work of students.

Thought it was a boring hoax.

Two people have commented to me about the smell around here today.damned

-Northen California.

I think it´s being caused by a lower quality natural gas product being pumped into homes and businesses as a result of relaxed gov standards due to special interests & huricane damage to refinement productivity.

wow - something smelly you have done a fantastic job.

Though I am now more concerned for all people living in those ´stench´ areas of the states. It is a strange one indeed - and I feel it is earth related. It is one helluva strange phenomenon!!!!! Its mind boggling really - if it is precursor gases.

Hope you are right ´its real´ - sounds like a plausible explanation. I´m not up to date with what reserves are being used - are they using reserves for the natural gas too? A lower grade gas?

Natural gas has no smell. The smell is added so leaks can be detected. The smell is not natural gas.

Re: sulphur smell prior to earthquake - indicator?
Latest 'guesstemations' from 'experts' claim the smell is coming from the annual die-off of fish in a nearby lake.

The ANNUAL die-off... as in, happens every single year, yet nobody in the area has smelled it previously...

Yet the sheeple trust the 'experts' so succinctly that they don't even question it.

Reminds me of the scene in 2012 with Arnold telling the people not to panic.

"When they say don't panic, thats when you panic!!"

Correct. Farts smell like sulfur, not methane.

Re: sulphur smell prior to earthquake - indicator?
Grab 2 pieces of milky quartz and strike them against one another. You will see triboluminescence but also, more importantly on the topic at hand - the smell of sulfur. Could it be that continual deformation of the Earth's crust causes these gases trapped as bubbles in the quartz to release into a massive fractal network of cracks that then vent to the surface?
