Apocalypse Now when I was 12-13? Had a huge effect on me... kept rewinding the end to listen to Kurtz over and over...

Still my all time favourite movie...

LOVE that film!!

As an adult, I would say Amistad hit me pretty hard.

(my ancestors were slave capture / trade privateers sanctioned by Queen Liz I)

When Cinque was in the greenhouse with Adams and he saw a
tiny African violet under glass- it was something beautiful and familair in a foreign, cruel land..

Before the trial for his freedom, Cinque said:

"I will call into the past, far into the beginning of time, and beg them to help me at the judgment. I will reach back and draw them into me. And they must come … for at this moment I am the whole reason they have existed at all."

That was so powerful.

Amistad is one of my favorite films of all time ... yes, it is so powerful on so many levels.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (uneasy feeling and made me think deeper when I watched it at 10 years old)

Exorcist (watched it at 11 years old and freaked the shit out of me)

Re: What was the FIRST movie you remember seeing that had a PROFOUND affect on you?
How old were you? What about it caught your attention?

The first one I remember having a REAL influence on me and making me think and question was "On a clear day you can see Forever" even though it was a cheesy 70's musical the subject of reincarnation addressed fascinated me and being raised in a strict Christian home that shunned and forbid any concept that was not "traditional" it was the first time I had ever heard of such a thing. I was about 8 or 9 and remember watching it on television in the late 70's in the very early hours of the morning ... I have always had insomnia ... After seeing it I started reading everything I could on the subject ... which led me many other directions throughout my life.

The first one I remember was seeing Tom Sawyer when I was around 2. The cave scene scared the crap outa me.

But the one that had the most profound effect was "On a clear day". I remember it like yesterday as well. It was in the 70's and I was in elementary school. We were at aunt kathys house and she had one of those big color console televisions AND she had HBO. (all we had were black and white t.v.s) I remember laying on the floor with my head resting on my hands totally mesmerized. The reincarnation stuff didn't interest me in the slightest, it was all the rest of it. Everything became clear and it was suddenly ok to know things other people don't.
I have that movie in my dvd collection because it played such a huge roll in who I am today.

"The Wizard of Oz"
We didn't have a color TV and I was around 3 or 4 yrs old.
We were visiting a neighbor's house who had a color TV and The "Wizard of Oz" was on. What a mesmerizing scene to see Dorothy walk into Oz from black and white to color !
I got a taste of what it must have been like for movie goers back in the day when it was released !
The witch scared me a Lot and so did those feet of the wicked witch of the East that scrunched up [ so creepy ] after the ruby slippers were magically taken from her by the good witch. lol !
The cowardly lion was my favorite character and still is. :o)

The first time I cried in a movie theater was the being forced to leave Anatevka scene from "Fiddler On The Roof" in 1971 - I tried not to cry, but couldn't help it - such a moving scene - pun not intended.
