Can someone please post the "rainbow bridge" poem
My daughter is going to put her 18 1/2 yr old pet down in an hour. She is very sad but the cat is no longer eating, drinking and is unable to walk. Last night she decided to do the right thing and put her out of her misery. I would like to be able to give her that poem when we get back.

PLEASE POST IT HERE IF YOU HAVE IT, OR THE LINK. I have seen it several times in the last few weeks.

Re: Can someone please post the "rainbow bridge" poem
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thankyou sooooo much. She has had the cat since she her 4th birthday. This cat was her babydoll. She used to dress her up and play with her. The cat always let her and seemed to like it. She even stayed in the stroller when she would walk her around the block. This is a very sad day for us.

Re: Can someone please post the "rainbow bridge" poem
We've had 2 cats and a dog pass this year from old age. We didn't have them euthanized (killed) but let them go naturally. I'ts like losing a child, I swear to God. The rainbow bridge is about the only comforting thing that makes any difference. It's heartbreaking, but I believe we will see them soon on the other side. Your daughter has my thoughts and prayers and I am certain those of all the animal lovers on this board.

Re: Can someone please post the "rainbow bridge" poem
although i don't follow any religious denomination, i stumbled across this prayer just shortly after i had to help my beautiful shepherd & companion of 11 years, make her transition. i was utterly devastated but found some peace & solace in these words. thought i would share this with you hoping it will help somewhat with her loss. much love ~

A PRAYER TO MY KAI

Dear Lord, please open your gates
and call St. Francis
to come escort this beloved companion
across the Rainbow Bridge.

Assign her to a place of honour,
for she has been a faithful servant
and has always done her best to please me.

Bless the hands that send her to you,
for they are doing so in love and compassion,
freeing her from pain and suffering.

Grant me the strength not to dwell on my loss.
Help me remember the details of her life
with the love she has shown me.
And grant me the courage to honour her
by sharing those memories with others.

Let her remember me as well
and let her know that I will always love her.
And when it's my time to pass over into your paradise,
please allow her to accompany those
who will bring me home.

Thank you, Lord,
for the gift of her companionship
and for the time we've had together.

And thank you, Lord,
for granting me the strength
to give her to you now.

Amen.

i want to say that i am truly sorry for the pain your daughter will no doubt, experience...my thoughts are with her (and you).

Re: Can someone please post the "rainbow bridge" poem
I have to tell you of an incident that happened when I worked at the funeral home.

I and a co-worker went out on "first call" to take the decedent into our care.Older guy, massive heart attack in the kitchen, died that morning.

He was on the floor so we rolled up a sheet and fashioned a sling to lift him to the gurney in. Partner held him up while I pushed the sheet, the floor around us was clear. Decedent was checked for personal effects ect.

When we got to the prep room, I unzipped the bag and again did inventory of his person. A jingle sound was heard and from the folds of the bag out rolled a cat toy! An orange ball with a jingle bell in it!

It dropped from the bag and went across the floor. Picking it up, I decided that some cat must be missing his/her toy so I disinfected it, bagged it and gave it to the funeral arranger.

Two days later, the wife of the decedent had come in with his clothes. I asked if she got the ball back. Her face lit up in the biggest smile!

"Oh yes! THANK YOU for finding that! It meant so much to her she said.

Turns out, there wasn't any cat. They had HAD a pommie who loved those balls. The dog had died YEARS before. All of his toys and effects were long gone.

The lady was delighted in that at the last moments of her hubby's life, the pommie must have come for him leaving behind the ball as proof.

I kid you not. This is a true story. So "Rainbow Bridge" is real folks!

Wonderful story hf

A friend of mine, her sister died a few months ago.
Well my friend was at her bedside. She said she knew her sister hadn't long left, however she opened her eyes and her face lit up, and she started talking to her dad (who died years ago), and she said how how nice to see the dogs are here. She died half and hour later.

It warms my heart to think they are waiting for us though, and we shall be able to give them a hug hf

Re: Can someone please post the "rainbow bridge" poem
I can't hardly wait for that day when I shall wake up and find myself walking on a road. In the distance, I'll see my Granpa's house. But before I get there, I'll see dogs out playing in the field; 7 dogs of varying breed and size.

They'll see me and come running at me full speed, tails whirling like helicopter blades. My babies. All my babies that I had to part with too soon. At the gate to Grandpa's yard will be waiting all the cats. On the porch, will be my family.

Never more to part, never more to cry. Amen.

Re: Can someone please post the "rainbow bridge" poem
Thank you everyone for such kind words. That was a very hard thing to do. While we were there we found out that she had 2 tumors, which probably explains the rapid deterioration (about 2 wks). We thought it was age cause she was over 18 yrs old. She lost her ability to walk two days ago, and wouldnt eat or drink today. Although it was very hard to do, it was better than watching her starve and dehydrate. We both know it was the right thing for her no matter how much it hurts.

I lost my 15 yr old dog less than 3 wks ago, and my other 15 yr old dog is showing her age. This is gonna be a very hard year for our family.

Our thumby looked just like that too. A little thinner due to age but same coloring.
