I'm not saying these space events have no effects on the planet, I'm only pointing out they're not going to cause the end of the world. Everyone is so focused on the activity on the sun rather than what's causing the sun to act so strangely since the last cycle. If this keeps up all the ignorant masses will be paying for the shielding and precautionary measures with their taxes for telecommunications companies instead of them having to pay for it all. It's not that hard to shield against some protons and not all electrical devices can be affected. People would know this if they actually had the correct information instead of these beliefs and opinions based upon misunderstood information. At 21:51 UT, Monday 2 April 2001, active region 9393 unleashed a major solar flare. Now reclassified as at least an X20, it appears to be the biggest X-ray flare on record, most likely bigger than the one on 16 August 1989, also an X20 flare, and definitely more powerful that the famous 6 March 1989 flare which was related to the disruption of the power grids in Canada. [ link to sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov] It's not the actual flare that caused the Carrington event, nor the CME, it was the SEP event (solar energetic particle). Basically high energy cosmic rays, which can come from the sun or interstellar space. A tiny fraction of CMEs can cause such events, about 1%. so you say its acting strange now...what do you think is the reason? the interstellar cloud, local fluff, local bubble? COMET ELENIN, NIBIRU??? say what you think This thread isn't about that and I'm not going to derail it from the subject matter. This is not about what I think. People love to use the Carrington event to somehow prove the sun is going to destroy us (which in X billion years it will eventually) yet they don't even understand the nature of the event, with people confusing the white flare it's famous for with a CME. It's the high energy particles which caused all that to happen. Neither the flare nor the CME were DIRECTLY responsible but somehow caused a SEP event strong enough to reach the surface. The same sort of high energy particles we see in cosmic rays could in theory also cause such an event and if the heliosphere continues to weaken we will continue to see an increase in cosmic rays entering into the inner solar system and reach Earth. The only facts here are that the sun has finally began to resume its activity and hopefully will continue to do so and reach the maximum with no more unexpected surprises like the deep and extended solar minimum we've recently just experienced. That the OP has no understanding of the subject and clearly lied about the magnetosphere weakening and is doing nothing more than regurgitating the same information the mainstream media want you to swallow and digest, therefore his opinion is worthless. The only thing I hate more than ignorance are liars.
