| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1514663 United States09/25/2011 01:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | waterspouts are not uncommon on lake michigan or any of the great lakes. i gre up on lake erie, live currently on lake michigan, and i am a great lakes ship pilot so i spend 8 to 9 months of every year literally on the water traversing these inland seas. i have taken 4 direct hits from waterspouts in my career. they're like glorified texas tornados or dust storms on the water. not anywhere near tornado status though i have clocked 115 mph winds while getting hit by a spout in lake erie. they are interesting to watch. typically if there is one that touches down you will see 2 or 3 more in the vicinity. i have seen 6 at one time moving along like ducks in a row. i cant say though if there are more of them these days with the sun exploding and everything. it could be very likely that the frequency is up. great post. |
