COMPUTER GEEKS!!! Need Windows 7 Startup HELP!!
GEEKS:

last week, i finally got sick of my computer being so damned slow (even after running defrag, cleanup, etc) so i went into my Toshiba bulletin board (i have a Toshiba Satellite laptop) and there was! a message that said that my computer might run faster if i made some changes to the startup menu.

it gave me 3 choices: 1. run only basic processes at startup, 2. restore to default, 3. customize.

so i was thinking "ok i'll choose basic (choice 1) and then enable applications/processes as needed."

WRONG.

now, my laptop (i'm on my backup laptop right now) won't allow me to do anything but turn it on and go to Windows!!! i can't access the internet, nada.

so the fix is simple, right? go back to where i was and click 'restore to default.'

PROBLEM: NOW i can't figure out where that startup menu thingy is that gave me those three choices!!

i've LOOKED and LOOKED and LOOKED. i looked in the "Toshiba Bulletin Board", i've searched 'startup' and NADA. NOTHING.

for the life of me i can't find that menu that gave me the 3 options.

HELP!!

Lol. I hate these proprietary "help" programs computer makers are loading these days. What the hell was wrong with giving people a windows disk ?

OP it sounds like you are in safe mode. Reboot the computer and the second you see the red Toahiba logo start nailing the F8 key and keep hitting it till you get some options. When you do choose "last known good configuration".

And forget about mainstream software compatibility as well.

Funny how the *nix and OSX people usually have a dual boot to Windows so they can actually get things done when they need to... once they get their actual work done in Windows, they can go back to "sticking it to the man" by using non-MS products.
