...I have a beautiful daughter who calls me "dad"...and that, my friends, is RETARDED.
 Quoting: E. Henry Thripshaw

Shes not your daughter.....
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550626

Try telling that to her...that is what she calls herself. I was chastised for including the "step-" until I quit.

It takes sperm to be a "father"...it takes something completely different to be a "dad". I never said I was her biological father...just her dad.

So...hopefully you are not so "intellectually challenged" that you cannot see the difference...in the mean time,

stfu

Just wanted to say good on you poster. hf It is so nice to hear a parent (man in this case) realize the well being of the child is more important than a fee you pay every month. I am tired of trying to justify to the biological parent of mine that very thing.

wow, looks like most women are blood suckers from what the posts are here. Very sad, I raised 3 kids when I left my x in 93. He never paid a dime, but the kids don't talk to him either. He is a skid row alcoholic. You can't squeeze blood out of turnip you know. I am free from this now, and am grateful I have 3 wonderful children.

My dad struggled to pay his child support, but we had bi-weekly visits and he always took us fishing, gave us allowances and took us to see movies and airshows.

I remember the money he paid my mom usually went to pointless things (bills she was behind on) and her being such a bitch about it. My stepbros always envy me for having such a great caring Dad.

I don't think it was right for my mother to claim almost 50% of his income and go out drinking in the weekends leaving us behind.

Re: POST YOUR CHILD SUPPORT BULLSHIT STORIES...
I married a woman with 3 children. Father was ordered to pay child support but never did. When the little one was 12 1/2yo, we divorced (I had been around for about 10 years).

In order to not pay lawyers, I agreed to the following:

1. $1000 / month until the little one turned 18.
2. I would not claim the expenses on my taxes.
3. She would not claim the income on her taxes.

In other words, I paid over $66K from after tax income(if you gross up the principal and figure the deductions I could have taken it works out to over $100K) and took it up the ass for 5 1/2 years...BUT...

...I have a beautiful daughter who calls me "dad"...and that, my friends, is PRICELESS.
 Quoting: E. Henry Thripshaw

Child support is not considered income. She wouldn't have been able to claim it anyway.
 Quoting: Sigyn

The payment order would have been "spousal support"...which IS taxable...
 Quoting: E. Henry Thripshaw

Well you didn't specify spousal support and we're talking child support here. In fact you stated "$1000 / month until the little one turned 18."

children are expensive. if the other parent wants any rights over the child they have to help pay. $250 barely covers one week of daycare.

it should be 50/50 of all child expenses.. and if it was you'd be paying a fuck load more.

just saying.

Re: POST YOUR CHILD SUPPORT BULLSHIT STORIES...
My daughter is 22. At the time I left her father she was less than a year old. He worked under the table as a painter. I signed an agreement to only collect $199.00 per month from him and continued on with my life, attending college, getting married, creating a family, etc...

I gave him liberal visitation even though he never paid support. LOL, he used to tell me my husband and I made enough money, he didn't need to give us more.

The state of WA caught up with him so he left the state, moved to Hawaii, just dropped out of my daughters life.

He recently moved back. Still works under the table. He owes thousands because he never paid his measly $199 a month. It ticks him off most that he can't get a fishing license because of child support debt.

I had to work and attend college and raise my daughter with zero assistance from her biological father, you know, the one who helped create her.

You all can bitch all you want about having to help support your children and I'll tell you what, if you don't want to give their mother money then take fifty percent custody and support them that way. It sure would have been nice if her bio dad would have taken care of her half of the time while I was attending school and working. He rarely even stop by to see her.

Doesn't matter now. She's doing well, we're doing well. No hard feelings. Losers will do what they do.

And remember when you start bitching about how much you have to pay... childcare alone is $800.00 per month.

Your story sounds a lot like mine, although I'm still in the middle of child support hell. Mine refused to pay court-ordered medical until I took him back to court. I'll never see all I should and putting him in jail is pointless as that just stops what little does trickle in. When he runs short one month, it is child support that does not get paid because child support isn't reported to the credit bureau. He is remarried and has a new kid. He is paying private school tuition for that one and college tuition for his new wife. New cars for both (she has NEVER worked), yet he claims not to be able to afford gas to come see his daughter ($25 round trip). It will never get better because he will never grow up and act as a parent. He picks her up for photo-ops or to visit his family at holidays, but that's about it. When he needs to impress someone and play the part of the good father, then he does. But, when it comes to the hard day-to-day raising of a child, he's absent.

Since there was no court involved, the $$ paid can be couched as anything. The important point to this thread is one spouse paying another after divorce...specifically when there children involved.

The current mantra from the courts is, "In the best interest of the child"...so it doesn't matter if you are the biological parent of the child or not. From a man's perspective, it seems that it is "fuck you, pay" because the little one "considers you her father".

I knew that one way or another, I would be paying. This is just my experience.

That sucks that you ladies have had bad experiences, it gives us good dads a bad name.

Hence some of the comments in here attacking me, I'm a GOOD DAD, who WANTS to take care of my kids.

I have done absolutely NOTHING to deserve this except for allowing that 300 pound box to fall on my head at work.

I agree. Mine bitches because he's supposed to pay $500/mo. Well, school/daycare alone costs that much. How about his share of her housing, utilities, food, clothing, medical, etc? He claims he should pay much less than that per month because he rarely sees her (which is by his own choice by the way.) He does not understand that TIME IS MONEY. If I'm putting in more than 50% of the time, then he should be putting in more than 50% of the costs. Most guys do not get this simple concept. How many days of work have they missed because of a sick child or doctor/dentist appointments. All of that adds up. He refuses to help with tuition because he claims he didn't agree to it (although, he signed the paperwork for the school). Yet, he sends his other child to private school without that child's mother even working. So, he's paying 100% of that kids tuition and none on the another? And, supporting a grown person who is perfectly capable of supporting herself. Don't ever tell my kid you can't afford something for her when you are solely supporting another child and a grown person.

I just find it sad how the nickel and dime affect goes into play when the romance is over despite a life that requires responsibility on multiple levels for the proper raising of a child (by both parents, whether near or far) goes by the wayside. Raising a child isn't free and that isn't just a statement about money!

Exactly. Like I said in my 2nd post, time is money. If the dad's choose not to put in 50% of the time, then they should be putting in more than 50% of the money. You know, a sick child with a simple 3-day illness costs me $300 in missed work. Guys don't seem to get that.

There is a stipulation in Ohio law that would allow him to pay even less BECAUSE he has another child to care for, as it should be, (who says one child of his is any more important than the other)

I could have taken advantage of that law and I did NOT.

Exactly. Like I said in my 2nd post, time is money. If the dad's choose not to put in 50% of the time, then they should be putting in more than 50% of the money. You know, a sick child with a simple 3-day illness costs me $300 in missed work. Guys don't seem to get that.

They refused to lower my payments when I was on a severe disability.

Making nothing and forced to pay over 600 bucks a month.

Then, because of debt racking up they take my license which pulled the rug out from under at least 60% of the jobs I was available to perform.

Real fucking smart system.

That sucks...I mean it, but.....and dont take this the wrong way....they are your kids - and they have needs that dont stop just because your situation changes.

I can relate to both of you here. Whom you quoted and you, very much so. I just find it sad how the nickel and dime affect goes into play when the romance is over despite a life that requires responsibility on multiple levels for the proper raising of a child (by both parents, whether near or far) goes by the wayside. Raising a child isn't free and that isn't just a statement about money!

Did you think about that when you left?

Would you go back to him if things worked out?

So take my license away so I can't get back and forth to work?

When was the last time you looked for a job, literally EVERY SINGLE AD, requires you to bring a valid drivers license with a clean background.

Lot's of people suffer with uncontrollable circumstances, that's life, you figure out a way.

What would you suggest I do?

Are you taking the side of the courts?

children are expensive. if the other parent wants any rights over the child they have to help pay. $250 barely covers one week of daycare.

it should be 50/50 of all child expenses.. and if it was you'd be paying a fuck load more.

just saying.

in my opinion.. it shouldnt matter what happened between you and your childs mother or father.. its about the child. and making sure they are well taken care of and playing your part.

Re: POST YOUR CHILD SUPPORT BULLSHIT STORIES...
I know loads of women who never got a dime from the fathers of their kids, in some cases these kids were even planned, but then the dad decided he'd rather keep partying and not grow up.

On the flip side I have a family friend whose wife is being sued by her ex. See, she lied about one of her kids still being at home with her and going to school, but meanwhile he's out on his own. He doesn't speak to either parent so this scam went on for a while. Funny thing is, just before I heard about the lawsuit I was commenting on how stupid she was being, since she was bound to get caught eventually...

However, I am of the opinion that children produced by one night stands or casual flings shouldn't result in financial obligations on the man's part. Sorry chicks, you're the one that can get pregnant, you should bear the bulk of the responsibility... A woman can chose to get rid of the pregancy, or adopt, but the man hasn't that choice.. Women in general should be less slutty and more careful about who they choose to go to bed with...

Married/LTR guys on the other hand... If you had kids with a wife or LTR GF and decide one day to take off once you've planted your seed.... Fuckin' pay your share, douchebag. Don't like it, be more selective about who you pledge yourself to

Re: POST YOUR CHILD SUPPORT BULLSHIT STORIES...
I got away with $250 per month at the time of divorce, but my whore of an ex-wife left me for another guy, so I still think it's more than I should have agreed to.

I tried to get primary custody, but, as usual, the courts are heavily biased against fathers.
 Quoting: javadave

Instead of focusing on if your kids are being well cared for you're spending your time calling her a whore and being pissed off?

$250 is too much to pay for the kids you created?? Wow, listen to yourself. I can see why the judge didn't give you custody.

It's over. Accept it, be happy, spend time with your kids, and move on.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1554261

I spend plenty of money on him outside of child support. I provide the health insurance, dental insurance (currently paying $5000 for braces), clothing (he's 13, so that's not cheap), along with all miscellaneous expenses that come along.

So, fuck you very much.
 Quoting: javadave

Really? Why aren't you and mom splitting the cost of braces? I'm sure you don't pay ALL the miscellaneous expenses that come along.

Dude, you need to raise a child on your own to understand just how far $250 gets you. LOL, not even the food would be covered by that. You're lucky.

Good on ya, though, for being a good dad. Sorry your girl left you for some other guy but you being pissed won't make it better. Be happy, you're free of taking care of your kid 24/7 and you get to swoop in and be the good guy and have fun with him or her during your visitation.

AND you get to be single and live your life the way you want.

I've been remarried for 8 years and have other children with my current wife. So, yes, I know how much it costs to raise a child.
