MARTIAL LAW User ID: 1707881 United States 09/26/2011 06:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, if they're making an announcement on it Thursday, I guess they're not too concerned about it destroying the planet on Wednesday. :P Quoting: Safia So first we get: Followed by a NASA announcement... Genius! :martiallaw4: “The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it.” Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. Ecclesiastes 12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. ~9/11 Was An Inside Job! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 2086085 United States 09/26/2011 06:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "NASA says it will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. EDT (6 p.m. GMT) on Thursday to reveal near-Earth asteroid findings and implications for future research. The briefing will take place at NASA Headquarters in Washington. NASA’s Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) mission, launched in December 2009, captured millions of images of galaxies and objects in space." Oh sure, an asteroid detectable in the infrared range? Puh-leeze. If it's something found in the infrared range it's not an asteroid NASA will be announcing |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1456261 United States 09/26/2011 07:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The end is near my friends. When has Nasa even cared about asteroids hitting the Earth? Quoting: cableguy30 [link to www.myweathertech.com] Off topic, but got to thinking about the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo spacecraft, Progress, Soyzus, etc.. and they all have shields for re-entry that are intended to keep them from breaking up on re-entry... Even the ICBM nuclear warheads are heat shielded for re-entry. If they are going to plan de-orbiting sats, or even because they know that ones launched into certain ranges of orbits will eventually de-orbit on their own, then why, why, why, are not all these new satellites being build with re-entry systems on board for that eventual commanded or environmental de-orbit? Seems that as far as un-manned sats, except ICBM nuclear warheads, all the other sats launched are more or less treated by an, 'as is' warranty,. just as software is treated. To me that is a very cavalier, devil couldn't care less attitude. We know that what goes up will very much tend to come down... so why are we allowing all the world's space launch systems to be so cavalier as to launch any sat or space launch without some sort of re-entry heat shield? Actually, in spite of the comments of "those who hate NASA", and in particular NASA ONLY sort of hate, the people at NASA do very much care about near earth asteroids... they can fall on their heads as well as ours, after all. But what many people seem to forget is that Congress is constantly setting forth X Billion for NASA in some budget only the next week to cut that X billion down to a tenth or even fifth of what they had granted for it a week before.. so NASA simply has to make do with what the Lords of Congress (allegedly representing We The People whose heads are threatens by falling rocks) are reluctantly granting to them. Once again, its not necessarily the Executive Branch side of the equation that is mainly stopping NASA from having so much more capacity and capability, it is CONGRESS.. the same one that can't even come up with an annual budget anymore to fund the operations of the Executive Branch, which they Congress have mandated that such Executive Branch is supposed to be responsible for getting done. This stands not just for the current president and his administration but all presidents of the past all the way back to Washington. Why don't we hear similiar bitches about the ESA, or The Russian Space Agency, or the Japanese, or the Chinese, or the Indian? NASA is the favorite whipping boy, it seems world wide... and NASA can't really do anything that Congress hasn't funded it properly to get done. ANd that include the continued search for NEOs. Of course the people of the American Public could busy themselves by putting together their own 'community' or private 12" mirrored telescopes for aiding in the HUMAN search for NEOs.. naw, too busy spending moneys on the next new "i-Toy" or Single Shooter kill-em dead video game. What a stupid people world wide humans can sometimes be. |

Quoting: cableguy30 [link to www.myweathertech.com] Yeah, just like the last major announcement that everyone here was certain was a doom announcement and then turned out to be nothing.... and just like the time before that... and the time before that... and on... and on... THIS IS GOING TO BE NOTHING OF PENDING DOOM!!! Just more NASA song and dance (to justify what jobs they have left) with no need for you to start overreacting and fear mongering like GLP ALWAYS DOES!! |
