I have no idea what the number represented other than proving to her sister that she truly "knew" things that no one else did. As far as a summery goes I think Dunst just "knows" doom is coming and for once in her life she feels connected to it and alive. I think she is embracing the end because it brings some kind of peace with it, a finality if you will. She believes humans are evil and should not be allowed to live on. I'm sure some of us could agree with that. I'm sure many of us here at Glp are like her in the sense that no one listens to what we truly believe. Claire on the other hand is like many of today's sheeple. She lives her life as if nothing bad can ever happen and when faced with approaching doom, relies on her husband's beliefs. Right up until the end she denies it will happen but in the back of her mind is a big "what if?" I think that is how our end will come. We will have one group saying that because of their education and knowledge it will not happen. Then another group will follow them because they need someone to do their thinking and worrying for them. Then you have the smallest group, the ones many think are insane, that actually know doom approaches but no one listens to them. Just my 2 cents worth lol |

I think her subconscious registered this memory when she initially heard the number. Later in part 2 when her anxiety is building she looks at the website again that talks about the "dance with death" that's when we the audience actually see the steps 6, 7, and 8 on the website that she prints out. these 3 steps mark the turning of melancholia back towards earth. |

She was caught up in a wedding at a time when she is getting a strong inner sense of impending doom. She suddenly doesn't care that she is marrying some smart upright guy, or about her great job when the world is coming to an end. She is taken over by a sense of carelessness, after all if you "knew" something was deadly impending might you not care about protocals or ettiquette? Good movie, depressing, but good. Just have to get past the first 20 minutes to get into it. |

It's not meant for people that watch American Idol, or can't wait to buy the newest(______place consumer product here). It's many levels above those IQ deficient animals that seem to breed WAY too quickly. In my opinion, and in addition to the great review on page one of this thread, I gathered that it was about BREAKING FREE from THE CHAINS of order, ritual, and slavery of religion(including slavery of capitalism). Once this system dies, a new beginning arises. Everyone constantly battles their social status within this hierarchy, yet in reality, your reality, you must decide what YOU wish to become and not what this current "shitcan of a society" expects from you to perpetuate the "norm". Basically, empower yourself, and BECOME GOD! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1558867 She stumbles on her words, and says incredible and the party planner agrees. She then tells them to forget about the results and to forget about it and throw out the prize. Clearly being such a heavily symbolic movie, this was nothing different than the rest of the weird stuff. Anyone have an explanation for 678? Gosh..its not the number..its simbolic..they are spilling the beans in the movie In my opinion Matthew 16>18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.. Peter was crucified..on Vatican Hill "Thou shalt not kill" does not apply to murder of one's own kind only, but to all living beings; and this Commandment was inscribed in the human breast long before it was proclaimed from Sinai. ~Leo Tolstoy You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy." But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? ..Immanuel ,The Christ (Sermon Of The Mount) “WHAT YOU DO TO OTHERS YOU DO TO YOURSELF FOR THAT IS THE LAW..AND THE PROFIT" ..)
