Mate, we use BOTH sides of our brain at the same time hence out conscious and subconscious minds are both active. What happens during our waking state is that our left brain dominate overs our right brain and expresses its consciousness through the five senses. It's inherently dysfunctional and contrives a reality that is somewhat different to what the right brain perceives.

When we sleep, the left brain is dulled and the right brain becomes dominant - hence we dream, visit alternate realities and play out metaphorical adventures etc .. Over time our brains have become smaller and left brain centric due to our poor diets. Our right brain is the key to our true nature, creativity and emotion. We have disconnected further and further from this source and are paying the price for doing so.
