69 sungrazers were discovered in SOHO images in 1997 compared to 200 sungrazers in 2010. A trend?

Observations, No, of sats? Cyclic periodic re-occurrence? More observer?

1998 was a terrific year. Go look at the archives.

Here are a few for you. Double Helix (My favorite)

Yes I m not sure but there may be an increase and they suggest it too. You can find a list here

scroll down
The difference in the ratio between Kreutz I and II in 2000 is marginally significantly different to that in 2004. The total numbers that are found are more dependendent on the observing practices in use at the time, though there is some evidence of an increase in Kreutz comets with time. The imagery since 2004 is more effective at allowing comets to be discovered. Jovian perturbations also affect the ratios. Until 2004 there was a clear annual increase in the number of Kreutz I comets being discovered, however this was not matched by the group II comets. For the purposes of this listing, returns of periodic objects are counted as separate objects at each return, so my total is currently one greater than the official total. This list also includes STEREO objects, of which there are currently 26. Routine work on orbits for recently discovered comets ceased in 2010 June, with orbits only computed for exceptional objects since then.
 Quoting: Ostria1

Read what Ostria1 pasted;

Increase is marginal and I suspect this is tied to a periodic cycle.

further to that I suspect there are also periodic cycles (larger time gaps) that are highly active and extremely hazardous to our entire system.

What causes such a cycle, I have my own theories on that, but keep that to myself for now.

One has to live in the present. Whatever is past is gone beyond recall; whatever is future remains beyond one’s reach, until it becomes present. Remembering the past and giving thought to the future are important, but only to the extent that they help one deal with the present.

Yeah, though, technically there is no impact (I made the same mistake in wording quite some time ago). Not much will ever get to actually impact the suns surface. Engulfed and disintegrated by the mass energy, electrons, cosmic density etc....

I think it is that we all move (the sun with the planetary system and the earth/ the Oort cloud with the comets) and at some points our paths cross each other.
Im my understanding there is a period of nearly 200 earth years for the appearance of the biggest fragments of the comet that broke up centuries ago (as the theory goes).
So if the last big ones were in the late 1800's maybe we will see them back around 2080 +_ 40 years. That is if nothing else interferes.

Yeah, I have to agree and just as we see here on Earth and other planets near by. There is also weather that can and does have diverse and sometimes unpredictable results. For instance massive rains dump in the mountains and downstream the rivers burst their banks, rocks fall in and the roll on effect can cause considerable damage (like dominoes).

I am sure the entire universe and the interconnect of systems also have seasonal weather patterns (sometimes uncharacteristic) and those rivers flow through our system (so to speak).

I'm sure the electron winds at times go through a very active period of energetic output (caused by other events) which in turn push our own (and other) heliospheric bubble and perturb the outermost ring of fragments (oort), thus causing some internal chaos for some time (in human years).

But for now, we experience minor variances which I would consider quite regular and normal :)

gosh, what a freck. I have not noticed anyone in this thread talk about doom. It's an active discussion of real interest in the very thing that gives us life here on Earth.

You really need to grow up and learn to respect our solar system with a bit more interest.
